I was both at the gig myself and saw (and taped) the original OGWT broadcast. Only the one song (Hot for Teacher) was ever broadcast, along with and interview with Dave & Al in a hotel bedroom. These were part on a larger feature on the festival as a whole, which lasted 25 mins and included live footage and interviews of AC/DC and Motley Crue. There were also interviews with the promoters and members of the audience.
It is likeley that the BBC recorded more than one song, but if they did, its never seen the light of day. There is an audience boot of the same gig, but it is awful! Very distant and I`ve never seen a low gen copy of it. The only decent full length boot of a 1984 gig is the Montreal Forum one I`m afraid! |

Don't ask me how, because they won't say...
I've known of a few shows that have leaked out from the OGWT vaults. Nothing major though. I have a 37 minute Lynyrd Skynyrd tape that is the full broadcast. Another trader I know has a 43 minute version that wasn't broadcast. He won't say how or where he got it though.
Sometimes it's out there. Just very hard to come by.

Yeah Randy, you are right there is stuff out there but it is probably sitting in some BBC engineers cupboard doin nothing :sus: !!
So bearing in mind how rare pro-shot stuff from the 1984 tour is, it might be worth you checking this out with the trader who has this 35 mins Catch!
Incidently talking of the Old Grey Whistle Test, the BBC are starting a new series of compilations from that program this Thursday night in the UK. I will keep my eyes peeled and my fingers crossed, you never know what might pop up!

on my whistle test....
it has an interview and shows hot for teacher....but also shows other footage for about 20 seconds here and there from the same show....I was confused with my live footage of jump I have...which also shows most of eddie's solo, and an interview... |

| A related question since I'm still new to trading. Are the Don Kirshner's Rock Concert footage of VH available? I've seen the clips on MTV/VH1 and also on the offical VH web site. I'd love to have that stuff esp. what appears to be a tour for the second album, You're No Good Dance The Night Away... If I remember right, Ed's strat is still white and black, no red yet. Is anyone trading this footage? Any info would be great. |

Duane - I think you are refering to 2 different sets of live promos. Firstly the 3 from the 1979 VH 2 tour;
Dance the Night Away
You're No Good
Bottoms Up
I'm not sure of the venue or date of those. Then secondly the 3 from the Fair Warning tour. These come from Oakland CA 6/10/81.
Unchained
So This is Love
Hear About it Later
All of which are pretty easy to get a hold of as many traders have them.
I don't think the original black and white version of Eds 'Frankenstrat' features in them though. If you want to see that on a live video you have to look at the Fresno Selland Arena 8mm film boot from 78. Its rather poor quality though.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Chris,
I thought those were circulating I just hadn't seen them mentioned during my time on the boards here. The US Festival gets interest I just thought that those would be too. I'm sure I'll get a chance to trade for them sometime soon.
I think the strat Ed plays in the 79 shows is the original monster. I was watching clips on the VH site with Real One player and the video was a bit hazy. I went back and checked and it appears to be the frankenstrat without a pick gaurd and the red paint over the black and white. Still quite cool. Anyway thanks for the info! |

| You might be right on the Frankenstrat Duane, I haven't watched those vids in ages. My 79 copies are awful too! |

| Those Van Halen 2 and Fair Warning Promos aren't very rare, as far as boots go. May sites sell them on compilation tapes. Try plugging in Van Halen boots on a word search, and you'll get several hits. Again, those are pay-for sites I've seen those on, not trading sites. |
