Agreed..... in fact I think there should be an international law passed banning drum solos at all gigs :o :o :o :D :D.
The only solo's I've ever enjoyed were Cozy Powell's 1812 Overture (cos its a great piece of music) and Neil Peart's (because it is so varied and has some kind of musical content). Those apart, The best place for a drum solo is at a drum clinic.
OK drummers flame away :D :D :D
BTW....just to show I'm not prejudiced I would ban 99% of all bass solos too :D

Chris.
I even get bored during guitar solos now. I think that if you're going to do a solo piece make it a composition. I HATE WANKERS!!! |

Errr  that's a funny thing to say at a Van Halen site?
I have to agree with Chris on the drum solo thing, but the solo that always gets me is a bass solo??? they just send me to sleep, what can you really do with four strings pitched so low, they make your bowels move! and how come the majority of rock bass solos emulate what a lead guitarist would do.
Though I like Mikey as a bass player, I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've watched the solo all the way through :( |

Ed is one of those guys who plays compositions (eruption, cathedral, 316, mean streat etc.) He does throw some wanking in between but usually it's tasteful...as long as you don't count the stuff he did on the 2004 tour. |

Neil Peart ... hands down, unbelievable, he is just plain awesome
Terry Bozio is just plain incredible ... I still maintain that Missing Persons was one of the most talented bands ever. People just see a pop band but all of these individuals were extremely talented. Get the Terry Bozzio instructional video and see what this guy can do, he is awesome.
My brother, a drummer, says Steve Smith is completely under-rated and is an excellent, excellent drum and can hold his own against anybody. |

I agree. He's one of the most technical as well as versatile drummers around today. |

Weren't all the members of Missing Persons in Zappa's band at one point or another? I agree Zappa surrounded himself with the best. |

| His wife was Dale Bozzio, the singer. She was in Playboy or Hustler or something like that. Very hot. |

Yeah, Terry and Dale were both in Zappa's band at one point or another but I could swear Patrick O'Hearn was also in Zappa's band as well as Warren Cuccurullo.
Just as a side note ... Warren was asked a couple years ago about a Missing Persons reunion and he said he Patrick and Terry were all still friends and have played on each others albums but he didn't think you would ever get Terry and Dale in the same room ever again. Apparently it was a bad divorce. I saw a thing on Dale a couple years back and she isn't bad looking but not nearly as hot as she once was. |
