I have 3 copies of this show on VHS, one of which is pretty good. but the audio is thin. I plan to transfer this to DVD with soundboard audio replacing the current audio if I can't find a version with good audio.
Has this already been done? Or, who has the best video version of this show? I have one that is pretty good, but the colors are pretty saturated at times, I can fix that in Vegas, but don't want to if I don't have to. I can't help the feeling there's a better copy out there somewhere.
Let me know if you have one. Thanks. |

Sorry, you may have mistaken me with someone else. I have never sent you an email.
The quality is pretty good. 3rd or 4th gen maybe. It's clear and all (not blurry). But it's generated enough that there's color bleeding and over saturation. There's also some slight video noise on the top half of the screen. For a boot, it's a B+ or even A, but since it was a pro shot show, I figured a better copy had to be out there somewhere. |

I wonder if a Japan LD exists....
Was it originally broadcast on Japanese television? If so, you can be certain there are several master copies, some of which are S VHS.
I've got several contacts in Japan, so I'll check into this.

It is a Japanese broadcast. That's why I figured there had to be something better around. I know someone somewhere has an excellent copy. They just either aren't here, or aren't speaking up.
If it was ever on LD that would be ideal of course. Thanks Randy, let us know. |

Ironically, I have a PAL copy with excellent Hi Fi stereo audio, but a poor picture (bad tracking noise). If you want a copy for the audio alone, let me know, I can convert to NTSC no problem.
But as you say, its hard to believe that someone hasn't got a good quality TV master somewhere in Japan!

I did some checking by using Japanese search engines and wrote things out in both English and Japanese. I had very little luck. I saw a few audio copies, but that was about it.
This is rather strange because the Japanese are great collectors of boot material (they tend to focus in on a favorite band or two and collect anything and everything they can get their hands on) and Van Halen is pretty popular in Japan.
I'll keep on trying. Obviously based on what Vic said, there must be some high quality tapes (or LDs) out there somewhere.
