Getting in late on this, but #2 or #3 for me.

How will it be monitored if someone is trying to torrent a crappy sounding show, when we know there is better quality out there? It could be an easy way to spread inferior shows quickly....

I must have missed this thread... so I'm way late. But better late than never.

I film shows occasionally (and some of them turn out pretty well). I've offered to torrent them here first so that fellow VHTers would be the first ones to get them - and thus have a chance to acquire some decent trade bait that no one else has. But no one seems interested in this idea, so I opt to torrent them at DaD or TTD.

Even though I have largely shifted over to torrenting, and only rarely do snail mail trades, I don't feel like I've missed out on the "human interaction" element to which many of you make reference. As far as VHT is concerned, I get most of that right here at the website. I've established so many trade/filming/authoring project relationships over the years, I stay very busy with this great hobby - without having to do snail mail trades.

My vote goes for 3. VH Related Torrents Only, 3 Months as a member.

The torrent section like the tree section should be an extra service vhtrading provides to its faithfull members who contribute to this site and became "friends".
If your looking for torrents only, there is choice enough (Dime, JTT, TTD, etc.)

We all have differing opinions on this subject, but the majority seem to like Option

1. VH Related Torrents Only, no requirements.

The reason i also like this option is that yes we are a VHTrading site, but the overall theme is sharing. Opening the site to Torrenting in my opinion would help the newbies get their collection built up.

Not everything needs to be Treed, if we have a newly released DVD that we want Treed only, we can do it. It can be Torrented at a later date.

Right now there are so few people able to access the torrents and they die off fairly quckly with only a few people having dl it.

This private club mentality isnt working...because most of the Elder do not take part in the Torrenting. Why not offer the newer members a resource where they can upload and download older shows and get them faster.

Here is what I decided to do:

Van Halen or Van Halen Related Torrents Only.

You must be a member here 3 Months and have 30 Posts to access the Torrent sections.

Once you meet these requirements you will be granted access to the Torrent Sections.

This is first off a trading site and there are other sites that focus only on Torrents but we are trying to do our share for our VHT members and don't be surprised if we Torrent something here before any other site has it.

Like VHLIVE mentioned not everything has to bee tree'd here and can simply posted for people to Torrent.

We can also Torrent the item first before we TREE it out. This way people will have a copy of it and when the TREE is set the Branches will already have their copy.

As of right now there are very few people who actually Torrent here and I know in the future we will have more and more people... The more people who Torrent here the faster the D/L for everybody.

A member must have a ratio of 0.50 or higher to be allowed to Torrent.

If you do fall bellow the 0.50 ratio then you are responsible to bring up your ratio... If a member has D/L 5GB or more and their ratio is below 0.50 then they will get a PM reminder from me or one of the MODS. If a member has 10GB or more D/L and their ratio is below 0.50 then these members already had the warning PM and will be removed from the Torrent group and will not be allowed access again in the future.

The Torrents will be basically for newer members who want to start their collection faster because most of the older members already have a copy of what's out there.

If something has posted on the Torrent section and you already have a copy of it then please help out... It's no fun leaving your computer on for 2-3 days seeding just so 1 or 2 people can D/L it from you.

One last note:

If you have 30+ posts and have been a member 3 or more months and don't have access to the Torrent section then please PM me and let me know and I will give you access.

To get opinions Ron.... it was an opinion poll. Ory and the rest of the active mods all expressed our opinions as did the members who were interested. Keep in mind that the Admin, and the Mods have to keep the forums Organzied and opening the forums to a free for all torrent wise might not be the best decision right now. Especially when the site is New to Torrents. So for now, to keep it managable... Ory has decided that at this time he will open it up to those New Active Members. Just like Trees, put some time in, be proactive within the forums and you get access. Seems simple enough to me. Smart move in my opinion. Keeping it VH Related Only also lets everyone know that it's just that VH Related only. Why Torrent everything else. JTT does it....

Thanks for all the hard work Ory. I know some of us appreciate all the work you put into the site. Thanks for thinking Big Picture as apposed to short term.

Randy this was brought up with you before and your reply was..well more people will access it at such and such a site. Now all of a sudden it's an issue.

If you would like to share your non VH related show here at VHT first. Im sure a ton of us would gladly Tree it for you.

Thats the whole point isnt it...to share your shows......or did i miss something...what does it matter the way it's distributed..as long as it gets distributed to those who will enjoy it and appreciate your work.
