I had a discussion with some of our members here and the topic was on torrents and what direction they would like to see VHTrading go with torrents. They gave me a bunch of great ideas and let me know what they would like to see here at VHT.

One of our Mods asked me why don't we ask our members here and see what they would like to see happen here at VHT. These are just opinions and it doesn't mean there is going to be changes in the torrents BUT if the majority of you like or give us a better idea what to do then maybe we can have a better idea in what direction we can go.

Here are the questions:

1. VH Related Torrents Only, no requirements.
2. VH Related Torrents Only, 30 Posts, 3 Months as a member.
3. VH Related Torrents Only, 3 Months as a member.
4. Torrent All Artists, No Requirements.
5. Torrent All Artists, 30 Posts, 3 Months as a member..
6. Torrent All Artists, 3 Months as a Member.
7. Trade Only, Get rid of the Torrent Section all together.

As of right now I am trying to torrent something new here maybe every 2 weeks but I am having a hard time deciding what people would like me to torrent and I have been trying to keep the torrents either Van Halen only or Van Halen related in audio and video.

The torrent section is a closed group as of maybe 20 days ago and people who had 30+ at that time had access to the torrents... For the people who didn't have 30 posts at that time or members who I thought boosted their post counts were not allowed access.

Let me hear what our members here at VHT think...Ory

My vote is trade only, like setting up a tree for it. There aren't many people downloading torrents, and it is near impossible to have a decent ratio. The torrents will also have somewhat slow downloading speeds due to few seeders. I think we should post the torrents at DAD, where there are tons of people downloading, or jamtothis.com, and the torrents will last longer and have higher speeds, then all you need to do is post the link.

I agree with rhoadsfans5150, unless we can reach some sort of critical mass here for torrents.

If you post the torrents at Dime, and let us know beforehand when something will be posted, then we can all get in early and reap the benefits of seeding.

Having said that, I'm happy to get this stuff wherever it is posted.

I have to be honest, I have never been keen on having a torrenting facility here. DAD, JTT, TDD and the like cover that end of things perfectly well. Lets stick to doing what we do well here...... trading, archiving and upgrading/cleaning the trade pool. I'm for quality not quantity.

So I vote option 7.

Chris.

I like option one ... VH related only but no requirements. I think since this is a VH Trading site we should promote trading VH. But I think the requirements may hamper things a little bit and I think given more time the Torrent section can pick up a bit. The issue I think is that people aren't able to download because they don't met the requirements OR what is being Torrented is something they already have (i.e. something that was already Torrented at JTT or Dime, I don't think it is wise to start Torrenting here). Look at what has been Torrented and what has been popular ... it is new things that has not been out there yet. If you want Torrents to be popular than there has to be new stuff and the restrictions have to be lifted. I'm also not concerned about the ratio thing because I know there are great people on this site that will open up their Windows when need be (and the others we can always use their bandwidth).

I Vote for
1. VH Related Torrents Only, no requirements.

lets test it out....see how much traffic we can get through the torrent section.... and see if its works or not. We wont know unless we try.

Although it's something that I'm not in to. It's a good way (for those who know) to get shows.

I'll be a snail mail trader for life. :D

I'm in for option 1.

Although I don't have an internet connection right now i'm all for torrents. Remove the restrictions will get more people seeding and leeching which will increase the speeds of downloads.

Just my 2 cents.

Option #1 gets my vote.

Like others have stated I prefer to trade the 'old school' way but that doesn't mean I won't grab a torrent if it is something I would like to have. I just think doing things this way builds a better trading network and better trading relationships. It is always good to have resources to fall back on if needed.

Thanks for all the effort Ory....it really is appreciated.

Now what if one of us authored a non related VH DVD and wanted VHT members to be the 1st to get it before the other sites torrent it.

Do we torrent it here even though its not Van Halen related?
Keep the torrent section VH/Related only and tree the DVD/s out only?

I have noticed in the past that if we torrent something or something was on torrent on another site before it was tree'd here it makes the tree run more smoother and faster because some people will have the disc/s already on hand and we end up with more branches.

Quote: Thanks for all the effort Ory....it really is appreciated. Thank VHLIVE because it was his idea and he actually came out with the questions for me too. He mentioned that why not ask the members of VHT and see what direction they like to see the torrents go.

So what do the rest of the members think?

Although I don't currently torrent, I've recently downloaded some shows from

DDLR with the help of a friend with cable. At this site, anyone is free to download

shows without have to seed or upload anything. This might be something worth

trying here. :thumb:
