The "Star fleet project" are the 3 Songs Ed did with Brian May in 1983. It is part of Brians "Brian May and Friends" album, which is pretts rare, although i don´t know how many records were released.
The Songs they did were:
- Star fleet theme. I would call this one the only real "song" on this project, although it´s my least favorite on it. It is written by May, who wrote it for a TV Comic series as the main theme. It is pretty strict arranged and there is a solo from Ed and after the song actually ended Ed picked up on it again and they keep on playing some more of it.
- Let me go. A classic blues tune with a lot of soloing from the two guys. You never heard Ed playing that way. It´s very bluesy without Dive bombs or any other fancy stuff Ed normaly uses.
- Blues breakers. Inspired from Eds and Brians favorite band in which Eric Clapton played. Again a classic blues tune, whith a lot of jamming.
In one song (can´t remember which one)Ed breaks a string, but continues to play just for the fun of it.
It was never planned to release that jam session, but after it turned out so well, they did actually.
If you are an Eddie fan (and who isn´t?) you have to have this one. :thumb:
I have this one and some other Ed solo things (Baked potato bar/Steve Lukather, Musicians jam/Alan Holdsworth, Jeff Porcaro benefit, ...)
If you are interested, throw me a line. |

Yeah! The bit when Ed busts his top E string is awesome! You can hear it break when he is bending it too much...... a classic moment!
I`d forgotten about that Tease, I`m gonna have to dig my old vinyl copy out now and give it a blast.
Cheers,
Chris. |

| The 3 Star Fleet songs were also remastered and put on a Japanese Brian May import CD called "Resurrection" in the mid-1990s. The Inside/VanHalenStore.com used to have them on sale. Even though they might've discountinued them, there still might be copies of Resurrection floating around out there. |

Thanks a lot, Bill for the info.
I just had a quick look on the vanhalenstore.com site, but there is no EVH/Brian May record. :(
But, i´ll keep on looking for that. |

| The Starfleet Project is a great album. It is one of my all time favorite recordings of Eddie. I have a vinyl copy of it I would be willing to sell. It is in near mint condition. If anyone is interested, let me know! |
