Ky-Mani Marley is opening for Van Halen according to LiveNation. Strange choice, I would rather see a group closer to VH's genre. It is as strange as seeing a jamacian band opening for Yngwie Malmsteen in 2005. It would be cool to have Extreme to open for VH.

LMAO! I was thinking the same thing, I had to google it.

Quote: Ky-Mani Marley (born February 26, 1976, in Falmouth, Jamaica) is a Jamaican actor and reggae musician. He is the son of singer Bob Marley and table tennis champion Anita Belnavis. He moved to Miami when he was nine years old.

Marley's first appearance as musician took place in 1996 when he recorded Like Father Like Son, an album consisting of cover versions of some of his father's songs. His next album, 1999's The Journey, received mass critical acclaim, and achieved relatively good sales. His 2001 album, Many More Roads, was nominated for a Grammy for best reggae album. He lost to his brother Damian's album, Halfway Tree.

He is featured on the following albums: Young Buck's album Buck the World, on a track called "Puff Puff Pass", Afu-Ra's album Body of the Life Force, on a track called "Equality", and Ms. Dynamite's album A Little Deeper.

He achieved even more success as a musician with a cover of Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue", in collaboration with The Fugees' Pras. He has also starred in several films, including Shottas in 2002, and as John the Baptist in 2004's Haven.

Melodic Rock today

KY-MANI MARLEY HONORED TO BE SPECIAL GUEST ON THE 2007 VAN HALEN TOUR

Why do promoters book musically incompatible acts as support for headliners? How frustrating for rock fans turning up to see Van Halen, having then to sit through a bloody reggae/hip hop act. How about Gotthard or Scorpions or some new upcoming rock act like Cinder Road instead? Once again the deal is put before what the fans might actually want to see...

Press Release / AAO Music, Inc., the home of Reality and its label partners, Vox Music Group and Purfek Storm Productions, are pleased to announce that Ky-Mani Marley has been selected to support Van Halen on the group's highly anticipated North American tour.
The tour will coincide with the release of Ky-Mani Marley's CD titled Radio. The CD will be his first release since his Grammy nominated album, Many More Roads, five years ago. Radio features several key singles including "One Time," "The March" and "Conversation" among others. All of the singles contain Marley's unique sound of classical reggae beats mixed with contemporary hip hop. Each song will be promoted heavily at radio, in print and other media and at retail. In addition to his exploding musical career Marley has also starred in several feature films including the cult favorite Shottas.
Son of the legendary Bob Marley, Ky-Mani continues the exodus in a different, but difficult world after 30 years. Radio by Ky-Mani Marley will be available from AAO Music, in conjunction with Vox Music Group and Purfeck Storm Productions beginning September 25th

Who knows, maybe the 'new injection' into VH that wolfie brings, is that he can only play bass reggae style!!! and the support act is to ease you into the comfort zone, ready for... 'No woman, no UNCHAINED' and 'Were JUMPin, JUMPin till the break of day
Oh well... back to the nursing home for me.

Btw, Don't forget Dave's blue grass period :yell:

Yep my thoughts exactly. No need for an opener, just give us 3 solid hours of classic vh.

I was gonna say...who is actually going to go in and watch these guys?

The upside is...that's just all the longer the tailgate party is gonna last!

The first three times I saw VH (all CVH shows) they always had bands that literally no one had ever heard of before. And of course, no one really paid them any attention. The thing was, these were general admission shows, so if you wanted a good seat (or spot to stand in front of the stage), you had to get there early, so you had no choice but to sit/stand through a no-namer struggling to get the crowd going. At a show at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, the lead vocalist for one of these bands got into it with a fan in the front area of the stage. I have no idea what the fan did or said, but the singer was cussing up a storm and holding up the mic stand like he was going to swing it and hit the guy - while the rest of the band just played the same eight bars over and over waiting for the singer to get back into the song.
