08/22/2007 - Me-N-Ed's is opening a super-restaurant at Granite Park. Granite Park has drawn a great deal of skepticism over the years. Some said a project like this couldn't make it in east central Fresno.
But, buildings are taking shape and Granite Park now has its first tenant. The newly opened Me-N-Ed's Victory Grill will no doubt give other businesses food for thought. Marcel Bustos, manager, says its "just to show everybody this complex is serious."
The restaurant's so serious about sports, it features recessed TV's on the walls. Bustos says, "It's kind of a cozy kind of niche and I think for a Sunday afternoon to come in here and sit in one of these spots is kind of the hot spot."
Actually for the kids, the hot spot will be the gaming area. "We have a TV bounded right there and we're gonna build out little stadium seats and will be playing little videos, " says Bustos.
Granite Park's baseball, softball and soccer crowds now have reason to stick around. Bustos says, "They kind of hang out in the parking lot after the games because there's really nowhere else to go."
Granite Park President Milt Barbis says the idea has always been to try to make this place a destination. He says, "About every 30 days something new will be opening here at Granite Park."
Rock star Sammy Hagar is set to open his Cabo Wabo Cantina by December. "So you'll see Sammy's lighthouse going up in the next week. The Cabo Wabo lighthouse will be coming up immediately, " he says.
Former Fresno State soccer standout Jason Gray has also signed on. He'll move his Physiomotion Health Center from Clovis to Granite Park when this plot of land becomes office space in January.
Gray says, "We'll have access to or be accessible to the local softball clubs, volleyball clubs, soccer clubs and then have a big gym to provide better services than we have now."
Finally, some signs of progress after over a decade of planning. But, Milt Barbis says it will be worth the wait.
Plans still call for an amusement park. Barbis says a roller-coaster and water ride from the old MGM Theme Park in Las Vegas will soon be shipped to Fresno. |
