"JUST A RUMOR: We have had two unsubstantiated reports from the Charlottesville area that that the members of Van Halen were in a bar called "Rapture" on Thursday the 21st, and it was reported that Wolfgang got into an altercation with someone, which precipitated fighting within the band at the nightclub. It reportedly got heated and apparently this caused the abrupt postponement of the shows in Charlottesville and Atlanta.
Please let us know if you have any additional information about this." |

A couple of things I find a bit fishy...
They typically stay in one city and stay at the same hotel while they are in a particular region. For example, they stayed in Orlando during the five shows they did in Florida.
With Atlanta being located almost smack dab right between Charlottesville and Dallas - I can't imagine they would ever be in Charlottesville until the day of the show - opting to chill in Atlanta (much more cosmopolitan).
And taking Wolfie to a bar at the age of 16 in a hick town like Charlottesville will get the parents thrown in jail real quick.
I'm just not buying this story... |

| Why not just come out tell us the truth? I get so frustrated with the "cloud of mystery" behind these guys. I think most people can handle the truth, just tell us. It is the not telling us that tends to piss people off. I was planning on going back to see them again on the 3rd in Dallas, but it is this kind of crap that makes me thing "Nah...I'll save the $$$ for my kids braces or something..." |

There could be many reasons why they don't say anything...
Maybe they figure it's just another bullshit story...and if they answered to every bullshit story ever published, that's all they'd be doing for the rest of the tour.
Suppose it is true...and there is a clause in Wolfie's child custody agreement that says if there is ever an alcohol related incident involving Ed with Wolfie present (or vice versa), Ed loses any right to ever be around him. And there goes the tour.
There are dozens of reasons why they don't say anything... these are just a couple of possibilities. |

Well yes, technically that is true. I've seen stranger things in the entertainment world...but in reality, that' would be a heck of a clause and a heck of a situation...but technically, yes...it could be something like that.
I've got my fingers crossed for Dallas next Monday. I'll be there good Lord willin', the creek don't rise, and a restraining order don't get placed on Ed.... |

I agree. I don't see them taking Wolfie to a bar at his age, especially with Ed's history with alcohol. |

I would think that the band stays in a hotel in the city that they are playing in... I can't see wanting to do a 2-4 hour bus trip to and from the shows..... Orlando to Tampa is about 2 hours, Orlando to Lauderdale is a solid 3-4 hours, and Orlando to Jax is easily 2 hours as well.. That would get awfully annoying. |

It's all over the internet, Van Halen canceled their show because of fight between band members at a club on the Downtown Mall, but is it true?
We investigated and found out that yes, Van Halen's crew was at Rapture Thursday night, the night before they were supposed to play at the John Paul Jones Arena.
But the bar says there was no altercation and Rapture had nothing to do with why Van Halen canceled the show. Van Halen says that the concert has just been postponed and they will reschedule. |

Ha! Ya beat me to it!!
A guy came on the radio the day of Tampa show and explained how he'd been camped out in front of VH's Orlando hotel for the past week trying to get all three of the Van Halens' autographs. Apparently, he got Wolfie's first, the day of the first Ft. Lauderdale show, and when he was doing this, he told Wolfie some entertaining stories about when he met his Dad and uncle Al back in the '70s. Wolfie went to get Ed and Al to help the guy get autographs, but he could only find Al. The guy didn't finally get Ed's signature until 3:00pm on Monday (18th), the day of the Tampa show - as the band was getting ready to travel to Tampa for the soundcheck/show.
Side Note: When asked about getting DLR's autograph ~ the guy said DLR stays at an entirely different hotel than the VH clan. |

Rumors of fight, greatly exaggerated
Relax, Van Halen fans: Rumors have been buzzing all over town and across cyberspace, but they aren’t true.
Yes, the band postponed its Friday night show at Charlottesville’s John Paul Jones Arena and a Monday show set for Gwinnett Arena in Duluth, Ga. And, yes, some of Van Halen’s crew members were in a local bar the night before the show.
But no, the famous members of the band behind "Jump,’’ "Panama’’ and "Hot for Teacher’’ didn’t break up in Charlottesville, because they weren’t here, and they didn’t have a knock-down, drag-out fight in Rapture on the Downtown Mall.
"There was no bar fight,’’ said Janie Liszewski of High Profile Media. "The band members weren’t even in Charlottesville. They were in Miami.’’
Sarah Oppenheimer, a server at Rapture and longtime Van Halen fan, said that about she spoke to crew members who were at Rapture on Thursday night, the evening before the scheduled show.
"They were being nice, docile people,’’ Oppenheimer said.
She also said that there were no band members at Rapture and that there was no fight, although "they were nervous anyway that the show would be canceled.’’
Juli Zavacky, a day bartender and server at Rapture, said the rumors spread far out of state, and quickly.
"We’ve actually gotten calls, starting Friday, just nonstop - various former staff members that moved to other cities and stuff. Apparently it’s reached California now. People from there have been calling us,’’ Zavacky said.
Liszewski also said she’d seen plenty of rumors on the Web.
A new date has not been announced for a Van Halen show at the Jack, but rescheduling is in the works, she said.
According to the band’s Web site, www.van-halen.com, the band’s next scheduled tour stop is March 3 at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
"It’s simple. The shows were postponed, not canceled,’’ Liszewski said.
There’s still no word yet on why the shows were postponed.
Daily Progress staff writer Rob Seal contributed to this story.
