| They are used much more than you think. It's just not something that's advertised nor easy to detect. |

its not the first time van halen will play to recorded background vocals. they also played to recorded keyboards. I don't really see the big deal. as long as it stops there. If the lead vocals or lead guitar are prerecorded then THATs bullshit. Alex did a duet with a recording of himself for the drumsolo as well as EVH doing his solo to a recording of himself playing. they were both playing to audio & video on the big screen.
It sure wont be the first time in history someone plays to a backup track......... |

| IMO, if you listen to RHRN, there seem to be recorded backup vocals on that as well. |

Unfortunately many official "live" albums are reworked and fixed before being released :( |

I always wondered on the Balance. The harmonies were justp perfect on Don't Tell Me, which I think with Ed and live that'd be really hard to nail every time. Dunno.
They about have to now, since they don't have Mikey. |

This review says there were no recorded vocals used in the final rehearsal. Guess we'll see.

| if so, no big deal. Theres always someting "added" to a show, if it be harmony vocals or keyboards. Some songs of VH have too many "parts" to all be played live |

| Listen to all the boots of this tour--the backup vocals are not pre-recorded. In particular listen to the San Diego show. The backing vocals, for some reason, are almost louder than Dave, and you can tell it's definitely live. I think they're doing a great job. |

Does that make it any less relevant? The San Diego concert, fairly recent, sheds new light on this topic I believe!
