Unfortunately many official "live" albums are reworked and fixed before being released :(
I heard that KISS Alive was tampered with... :D |

| It was rumored they were going to perform to pre-recorded backing vocals and I believe they probably are. I don't necessarily agree with it but I don't necessarily have a huge issue with it either. As long as ... it ends there. |

| As long as Dave really sings and the instruments are real...I don't think backing vocals are a big deal. |

What do you base that belief on? |

| Based on the bootlegs, it's been proven without a doubt, that VH uses pre-recorded backing vocals on this tour. They have been triggered at the wrong time in some cases, which further cements this claim. It is more evident on the earlier tour recordings, or the "off" nights. |

Cite examples?
I'd like to hear these mis-triggers.
I maintain that the San Diego boot virtually proves they are NOT using pre-recorded backing vocals. But I'll keep an open mind and listen to examples to the contrary! |

Van Halen's used prerecorded backing vocals for years, so it wouldn't surprise me if they're still doing it.
I arrived early for the 5-Star pre-party during the 2004 tour before other 5-star ticket holders had gotten there, and it was just in time to hear the end of the "real" soundcheck (as opposed to Ed, Mike, and Al's mini-jam session). During this the road crew was testing out the Runaround backing vocals. Could have it been Mike and Ed singing live during the soundcheck? Virtually impossible. The "round, round, round, round" was too clean, too pristine, too multilayered, and completely identical the dozen or so times it was played through the sound system. I had also heard one or two other pre-recorded vocal tracks that I couldn't immediately identify as to what song they belonged (sort of a generic "Ahhhhhhhhhhh!"). |
