In 2004, the backstage tour meant walking down a hallway and looking at closed doors with signs on the wall next to them describing what activity or people were behind those doors. Not all that exciting... |

The backstage tour sucked!!! It's exactly the way Ron described it except in our we got to see where everybody ate and we got to see all of Sammy's guitars and chat with the guitar tech.
In 2004 the best thing about the 5 star was being able to see the soundcheck with about 100 people.. That was awesome but back then in 2004 the 5 star was $400 now it's $1000 in 2007 without the soundcheck. |

You knonw...the problem with these ticket prices is that as long as people continue to shell out the big bucks, the prices will keep rising.
Think about it...back in the 70's prices were only $6 or $8 to see VH. I think that is what I paid back then. Then they went up to $10 to $15 in the 80's, $30 or so in the 90's, I think they were in the $60 or $70 range for the 2004 tour, then you have today's prices. But this goes for most shows nowadays...not just VH.
I remember going to the Texxas Jam in Dallas in 1987 and paid $29 to see Boston, Aerosmith, White Snake, Poison, and Kingdom Come. The next year was VH's Monsters of Rock (VH, Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica, and some other band), and I think the tickets were about $38. I remember hearing all the bitching about the huge rise in ticket prices. I just wonder what tickets would cost now for a show like that nowadays....probably anywhere from $1000 to $2500?...and that would be just to walk in the door...no backstage shit, special seating, or nothing.... :furious: :furious:
..
At least it is still cheaper than Hannah Montana tickets. She is coming here...and I know someone who shelled out $3200 for 4 tickets,,,, and those were the cheap seats...if my math is correct, that is $800 per..... |

Van Halen in '81 cost my parents (I was only 13) $15 for a ticket and $12 for a tour jersey.
The US Festival 5/29/83 was only $25 for that historical concert and it was worth every penny.
I know the cost of living isn't like it was in the 80's but ticket priced have gone sky high! |

For the NYC show...rather than shelling out $1000 - if you are looking for a backstage tour the day of the show - try the Tour of Madison Square Garden. It costs $17 and usually includes the backstage areas. For $17 it might be worth a shot - especially if all you saw in '04 were closed doors.
According to both MSG's website and Ticketmaster - tours are available the day of the show - Nov 13. |

| thereadog, thanks for that suggestion. :thumb: With the amount of $ I'm already laying out for the shows and traveling, I can't justify a 5-star (which are sold out now anyway) for $1,000, especially when the first show in Charlotte is only $550. |

No problem...its worth the hour out of your time & $17...if you are in the city anyway its worth the try. |
