I had a situation arise and would like to get some input from others on a Trade I'm still trying to complete.
It would be interesting to know if it has happened to anyone here.
Someone initiated a trade with me first.
After agreeing to a 7 DVD Trade, I asked them to send there's FIRST. Sighting the rule that if you ask ME 1st, then YOU send yours 1st.
This person said, "I'll send mine out via USPS Delivery Confirmation, on the same day you send YOURS to ME".
I said OK. Both my package to them and their package to me were mailed at the same time and we BOTH received our trades.
They wrote to me and said all the DVD's were fine and thank you.
Upon receiving MY DVD's, (3) of the titles/Discs had NOTHING recorded on them and (1) Title was had 3 errors and locked-up!
I wrote them and they apologized, and told me they would re-burn them and send them out.
A day later this person says" The 3 shows you wanted, wont burn for me. Can you pick something else from my list"?
I told them that I really didn't want anything else from their list and that maybe they could send me the "Bad Discs" and I could see what I could do with them MYSELF and then make them a copy and send them back BOTH the Masters disc and corrected copy.
I feel like I've been the product of a "Bait-n-Switch".
Anybody???
:furious:

| I would probably write the dollar (cost of 3 blank DVDs) off and move on. |

| I don't know about anybody else here but in the trades I've done, I always check the copies to make sure they'll play somewhere other than the computer they were burned on. It takes ten seconds to check and makes a whole lot of sense and avoids situations like this. |

That was the first mistake, always wait until you have the discs in your hand, before sending (in regards to dealing with new traders). That way you can inspect the discs. Once you send your discs out, they're gone for good in short. At least it wasn't a mega trade. |

It wasn't anyone on this site.
I really can't find anything from their list to "replace" it.
I feel like telling them "how it is", but I don't like "Burning Bridges". It seems like they tape alot of local venues and may come up with something good in the future. :thumb:

Well I got 1 DVD replacement disc from this person.
It had errors in it (AGAIN), so I e-mailed them.
They said "watch it on a standalone hooked up to your TV".
I told them, I like to watch it on my PC and that it "freezes up" and I can't make a copy.
They said, "Play it on a VHS/DVD player and tape the DVD onto VHS and THEN make a copy"!
Obviously, I told them to "have a nice day" and that I wouldn't be trading with them again!
;+(
What pisses me off is that I sent them EVERY DVD they wanted and checked it for errors before I sent them.
Out of the 7 DVD's they sent; 2 played and the rest either had errors or had NOTHING actually recorded onto the DVD-R!
So how do you list something in your collection, WITHOUT playing it/checking it out 1st?
I knew it was too good to be true!

| Sometimes a bad trade happens. Always follow the rule someone contacts you, they send first. IMO, if someone contacts you and is too paranoid to send their discs first, then someting is wrong. |

| What brand discs were the shows burnt on. I've had trouble with a few discs that have been sent to me (that were on crap discs) and couldn't watch them. I had them resent on better discs and they have then been fine... Its amazing how cheap some people can be sometimes. |

OK I need your help again.
The person I described to you (the initial post), was a Woman trader.
So I basically told her to forget any future trades and I "Wrote it off".
At the time I was in a seperate trade with her brother, who basically told me,
" thats my Sister and whatever you and I have going is our own business".
So I traded with him doing a 1 for 1 DVD trade.
When I got his DVD, the 1st thing I did was run it through "CDCheck" and it came back with 4 "errors" on it.
I then tried to play it on my PC and it started "stuttering" and then locked up.
I used a print screen to take pictures of the errors and sent it to him.
He said its "Probably because I tried to play it on my PC and it should work fine, playing on a Standalone player".
Is this guy full of shit or WHAT.
I'm not THAT knowledgable, so I thought I'd pose my question here, to get acurate information, BEFORE I blow a gasket!

| It sounds to me like they are both full of shit. I wouldn't mess with either of them, just write it off as a lesson learned. |

It is possible as computer drives are normally more sensitive to errors than stand-alones. However, the fact remains that you can't watch the show you traded for and I've never seen a stipulation as to what it will work in. Not only that, it would most likely prevent you from being able to copy and trade it in the future.
Personally, I'd send a replacement. |

OK I've kept you abreast of this situation, so without further adew, here is the explanation.
Your input would be so warmly invited!

From Trader:
I don't know what to tell you. If your expectation is that a DVD play on a specific device then you should request that up front. Not come back with an attitude when the DVD doesn't play the way you want it to. If you would have asked in advance I would have told you that I honestly don't know if it will play on your PC or not. You are acting like I did this on purpose because I don't want you to see the show I'm trading you for. I don't get it.
I will send you one more copy and do not guarantee that it will work on your equipment. The lowest recording speed that I have is 16X and that's what I use. I have NEVER, EVER, EVER had somebody come back and say that my DVD's don't work. I don't know what you are tryng to do on your PC. Perhaps because my equipment is new, your equipment is not compatible. That's the only thing I can think of.

I don't think the part about requesting it to play on a specific device is reasonable. I also don't quite believe that 16x is his slowest burn speed.
Having said all that, there's always a case when something just won't work. A few years ago I did a trade with a very reputable trader here and we had a hell of a time making if work on his PC. Turned out it was a combination of my burner, the media I was using and his DVD drive. The solution was for me to use and different brand of media (switching from TY to Ritek).
Have you run the disk he sent through CD/DVD Speed? There are different types of errors which will and can occur. Some are recoverable and some are not. If you have unrecoverable errors it's a bad burn or bad disk.
What kind of media is this person using? It's very common for traders to request that anything they receive be on one of a couple different brands of media and/or burned at a certain speed. 16x is way too fast for my liking. |

Below is a list of the errors I got when checking the disc with "CD Check".
I tried using DVDDecrypter in "File Mode" and then re-burning it.
It seemed to help alot, and only hung up in one place for about 8 seconds and then continued playing.
Can anyone tell me what these errors are below?
"Win32 G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.BUP Data Error (cycle redundancy check)."
"Win32 G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB Data Error (cycle redundancy check)."
"Win32 G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOBData Error (cycle redundancy check)."
"Win32 G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.VOBData Error (cycle redundancy check)."
