Just noticed that one of the "Ads by Google" banners was displaying a link to a guy selling bootlegs. Hmmmmmmm

Of course, the whole idea is to display ads for a product/service that appeals to the people at a particular website, so that you have a chance of getting them to click on the link in the ad.

Google has a bot that scans the text in the threads at the website to see what people talk about, and if a particular word pops up enough times, it gets added to the list of products to advertise. The bot goes through the list of companies who have paid Google to advertise their products, and when it finds a match, that ad appears at this website. If there were several posts here discussing sewing machines, we'd soon be seeing ads for selling Singer sewing machines.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: bootleg is the word used to describe an unauthorized recording that is for sale. This site isn't about selling these recordings, so it would be best not to use that word here. I think it would be better to refer to them as unofficial recordings, or the commonly used acronym RoIO (recordings of indeterminate/illegitimate origin).
