Why does VH really need an opening act ? Historically, CVH's opening acts were always terrible. No disrespect to Marley, but why bother ? Why not split the set in 2 portions like Rush ? Just sayin'......

Actually, the guy sounds pretty good. Not really my cup of tea, but he doesn't sound bad and the crowds (arena only half-full during his set) were very respectful at the first two shows.

With Dave doing all the singing ~ a two hour show is about all you can expect from Van Halen. Actually, I'm quite surprised that it isn't more like most other bands and only going for 90 minutes. Even with not singing on consecutive nights, this is really going to be tough for Dave to maintain. He's in his 50s and he's a smoker.

Why can't they at least get somebody of their style of music?

I went to the first two shows. Here are my thoughts on the opening act.

Show 1 (Charlotte): Saw a spotlight on someone on stage. Couldn't tell what or who it was because I was standing at the back of the arena at the time and it was sooooooo far back that people were just dots. Didn't listen to the music, couldn't tell ya any more.

Show 2 (Greensboro): Happened to be on the floor when the opener came on stage. The first couple of notes were of something I recognized, but then quickly changed to something I disliked. Saw back-up dancers shimmy across the stage. Couldn't hardly get out of the arena fast enough.

At no point did I ever see KyMani, I couldn't tell you if he was there or not.

My advice, skip the opening act and use the extra hour to drink, socialize with friends, find a better parking spot, or whatever.

Haven't you been reading the reviews?

Getting blown off the stage is the last thing that's going to happen. Quite the opposite, usually in these situations, the opener gets booed off the stage, for no other reason than the crowd wanting to see the headliner - and not because the opener is doing a bad job.

To their credit, the fans have been very nice to the opening band.

Exactly... That's what happened to the opening act for VH when I saw them in 1980. They were booed off the stage...I think they were called "The Cats".

Yeah, I will not be wasting my eyes & ears on this Marley person. No disrespect, I got major respect for Bob Marley and I'm sure this person is some descendent of his, but I'm there for Van Halen............and I'm still bitter that Mike is not there with them!!

I saw them that year on July 10. I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the opening band...but you just brought it back. Same thing in Kalamazoo...booed off the stage.

Gilligan,

I agree with ya' there little buddy. If I recall, BTO only played like 4 or 5 songs, then VH came on stage. BTO was good, but they didn't play long at all.
