I don't know what else to say besides this person is a complete asshole and does not have any regard for tapers or filmers.
See for yourself:

As the taper of this show and plenty of other shows the past two years I am now discouraged of ever posting a torrent again.
Please avoid this person at all costs. He is without a doubt, an enemy of the trading community. |

well, sixx made a good point..once you release a show you lose all control of it. People that download MP3 obviously do not care about the quality loss..so be it. Yes it floods the trading pool with shit, but anyone who cares would be able to tell instantly that its garbage.
Youve obviously made an enemy of this guy shit talking about him previouly, so i guess he could care less about your request.
dont release it, hoard them and that way you know it will never be changed.
Thats the only way to make sure the quality isnt messed with.
Threatening the community by saying you will never torrent shows again is hilarious.
Release it and forget about it, why torture yourself.
people need to wake up...once youve released it you no longer have any control over it.
sucks i know, but it's the truth.... |

Amen! I think many in the trading community would sleep a lot better if they accepted this. |

I've read the thread at the links and have thought about this a lot. My
opinion:
I understand both sides of the argument. Zach wants his work to stay
preserved at the highest quality possible in flac format. For those of us
who trade, this is the way it should be. But you also have to remember
there are people outside the trading community who only want to listen
to the music and could care less about trading it and the sound quality.
In the auburn hills info it says:
"As always, don't sell my stuff and please only convert to mp3 for iPods and
such, DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THIS IN MP3. THAT GOES FOR ANY PERSONAL
FORUMS WHO HOST BOOTLEGS, DO NOT POST THIS IN MP3. If you want to
share, help people get the quality version. Thank you."
What if people only want to listen on their iPods and such and nothing else?
A lot of them won't download the flacs and convert them to mp3 just to listen
on their iPods. And that's why the mp3 sites flourish.
I'm not saying it's right for them to do it, but it's going to happen. As was said
earlier, once it's released to the public, there's no controlling what happens to
it. It's a fact of life for this hobby of ours: when you release a show, it WILL be
bastardized sooner or later, in one way or another.
I want to also make this very important point. I really appreciate all those who
record/film the shows. I couldn't do it, always worrying about getting caught. So
I admire and respect you guys who do and release them. There're people who
record/film for their own enjoyment and that's fine. But I think it's sad for those
who do release their work to stop because a few molest their hard work. Think
about all the people who follow the rules/ethics and get true enjoyment out of
your work. I would think that's why you release stuff in the first place, for people
to enjoy. I know I've spent many hours listening/watching shows because the
recorders/filmers were nice enough to release it. And to them I say a true "Thank
You".
In the end, it's all about the music folks. And it's a hobby meant for enjoyment,
not grief and anguish.
Enjoy the music. :)

Shows with mp3 lineage used to be very prevalent. In large part, the reason for this was that during the dial-up internet era, mp3 was really the only effective way to spread shows over the internet.
When reasonably priced CD burners and media came to be, a lot of mp3s got converted to wave files, burned to CD, and then traded - thus polluting the trading pool. Think back 4-5 years ago - it was a fucking nightmare...disk after disk having the telltale clicks between songs, etc.
Technology has largely solved this problem though. There is software available that lets you analyze a wave file to see if it has mp3 lineage and highspeed internet (which is pretty much the norm now), allows you to download flac files faster than you could download mp3 files back in the day. And most bittorrent sites take lineage very seriously, so when an mp3 sourced shows gets torrented, it usually gets taken down pretty quickly.
So to make a long story short (or should I say...to make a short story long?), even if people do encode stuff to mp3, it probably is not going to pollute the trade community because non-mp3 sourced copies of modern recordings are so prevalent and easy to acquire, and there are plenty of safeguards in place to ensure mp3 sourced stuff doesn't get circulated amongst those who only want the real deal.
And indeed, threatening to not share new recordings because people have converted previous recordings to mp3 is really lame. You end up looking like the spoiled neighborhood brat who will only allow you to use his basketball if you let him be captain of one of the teams and you strictly play by his rules.
If you really think it's a problem, then by all means, don't share your recordings. You're under no obligation whatsoever to do so. But if you decide to do that, don't make threats and announcements about not sharing. Just record the show and never tell anyone about it and leave it at that.
