Notes:
I decided not to tape Saturday's show since it was my first time seeing them with Roth.
Tonight as soon as the lights went out and I hit record, I received no signal from my
battery box so I recorded the other way which meant a very bassy recording. Thank God
there's no distortion, it came out pretty good considering the circumstances. The
performance is way better here than in Detroit. The crowd in the upper bowl was very
lively, every one was dancing, singing, screaming, air guitaring in the aisles, and
I think I captured the sounds of the audience very well in conjunction with the music,
a very good audience feel, so it is an enjoyable listen. We were treated to a stellar
"Romeo Delight" with the "Magic Bus" tease in the middle, they seem to get better with
it at every show and this was the best I've heard so far. The "Spoonful" during
"Somebody Get Me A Doctor" is also very, very, very good. The band seems to be very
tight now, they have their stuff down and it sounds like it. As always, don't sell my stuff
and please only convert to mp3 for iPods and such, DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THIS IN MP3. THAT
GOES FOR ANY PERSONAL FORUMS WHO HOST BOOTLEGS, DO NOT POST THIS IN MP3. If you want to
share, help people get the quality version. Thank you.

Notes:

I made a trip out to Kansas City to see a Van Halen friend who resides in Springfield, MO, who road-tripped himself and brought one of his friends. Fortunately, I had a blast in spite of the bad performance by the band. To read up on my review of this performance and my time in Kansas City, go here:

http://www.diamonddavidleeroth.com/forums/index.php?topic=18639

As far as the recording goes, it would be a solid A if not for the loud, booming bass element. I didn't feel like equalizing the bass, and no volume adjustment was needed, so I did not change the audio properties of my master recording at all. So this is the raw master recording; the only editing was cutting up the WAV's and converting to FLAC.

With respect to the bass issue, I set the battery box to a 95 Hz rolloff as I have done on all the other shows I've taped with this gear, but the bass is nevertheless too loud. The bass was very loud and thumping where I was sitting, so I guess in that sense you're getting a good representation of what it sounded like from my seat. I was sitting next to a wall which kind of divides the sections of the upper bowl of the Sprint Center, so this may have contributed or caused the bass boom. If someone wants to remaster and get rid of the excess bass, go for it. Even with the bass issue, I think it's far and away my best Van Halen recording, and it holds its own pretty well with the best recordings so far on this tour.

Otherwise, the recording is surprisingly up front for a nosebleed section recording, and very clear with almost no audience chatter. There is good dynamic range and good stereo separation as this time, I had the time to get set up properly. I made sure to sit basically motionless the entire time to get a nice, consistent sound throughout.

Between "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and "1984" I decided to goof off and state the band, venue, city and date, along with stating that there will be an encore, in homage to the taper of Van Halen, Greensboro February 3, 1984 who said something similar in his recording. After "Jump," I also decided to ask for the opinions of the two people I saw the show with, and give my own opinion, in tribute to the taper of Van Halen, Philadelphia March 21, 1984 and his friend Gary C. who did the same thing 23 years ago. Finally, this recording is "marked" by my friend intentionally blowing a whistle at a few points, most of them at the end of the show, which is "homage" to the notorious horn that marked the Van Halen, Oakland June 11, 1981 audience recording.

Finally, if any of you heard/saw someone playing piano at the Holiday Inn Aladdin in Kansas City until 2:30 AM after the show, that was me.

FFP, shntool results and ticket are included.

Notes:

For my first recording, it turned out better than I could ever hope it would. It's raw and straight from the Hi-MD recorder, to my hardrive, to you. No EQ, no volume boost. Nothing. My battery box has no bass roll off, so be forwarned, this recording has LOTS of bottom end. If any of you experts out there think you can re-master and clean this up a bit, go for it. All I request is that you send me a heads up, so I can grab a copy. Wink

As with most recordings, it starts out a little rough during You Really Got Me as I was still setting my gear up. I was fumbling around with one of my clip-on mics, trying to attach it properly to the collar of my jacket. So as a result, you will hear a couple of rough crackles during the first minute or so. After that, it's all good. As for crowd noise, it's not bad.....except for my buddy next to me, who couldn't contain himself from the occasional scream, or singing along with some of the choruses. I had to give him the "shut the fuck up!" look I don't know how many times. Anyways, as I said, I'm very happy with the results of my first recording. I hope you are, too. What a kick ass, awesome show. Man, was great to see Dave and Ed share the stage again after so many years.

Long live Van Halen!!

Enjoy!

TD Banknorth Garden

Recorded by Tony> Balcony Sec.316
Remixed and Mastered by VOODOO
Linege info: Olympia DVR>EZwma>WAV>CD-R>Sound Forge 9.0c (WAV)>
(extensive)EQ>Wave Hammer -4dB, 1.5:1 Compression>Normalize RMS to -16dB>

Notes from VOODOO:
The original recording was directly to compressed WMA format,
so most of integrity of the audio recording was lost in the master recording.
The original recording was very hot with a lot of clipping.
Also, as with most of the shows on this tour, the overall sound was muddy and bassy,
so a lot of the lower frequencies were removed or pulled way down.
The mid range frequencies were also very hot, so I cut them between -15dB to -30dB.
There was a lot of clapping and screaming,
which I did my best to control with the Sound Forge Wave Hammer tool set to 1.5:1 compression at -4dB.
This was a pretty difficult show to mix, but I think given the source,
it turned out pretty well.

I hope everyone can enjoy this show for what it is and be grateful for the dude who unexpectedly
wound up at the show and realized he still had his digital voice recorder on him.
This may be the only copy of this show we'll ever see.
Thanks to the taper Tony...wherever you are!

Don't know what the other guy who posted a partial of this show was talking about. I was on the floor approx. 30 rows back in front of the stack on the right, 6 rows FOB, and the sound was great, though unnecessarily very loud, but it looked to me like Eddie was pushing 16 5000 Watt Amps on stage. Saw no temper tantrums, though my wife said she saw him adjust (not throw) a monitor. Old farts like us remember when musicians fiddled on stage with their guitar cords. Eddies appeared more like a heavy rope, which my have something to do with all the Wattage he was pushing. So we saw him tug on it a few times, but I did not see any attitude whatsoever. Seemed to me like the love fest between Ed and Dave was still going strong, or at least they pretended pretty well that it was, Anyway, we took the 16 year old, he was not impressed with the band until they played Magic Bus ,,, at which point Van Halen garnered the kid's respect and turned my little Who freak into one of their newest fans. Here it is, warts and all, but very few glitches in this recording, plus the sound is my typical high grade, unlike most other recording I have heard from this tour thusfar.

Source Info: Schoeps CCM4's > SD744T @ 24/96 > firewire to hard drive of dedicated music only computer > Bit Conversion and re-sampled to 16/44.1 with Sound Forge 7.0 > indexed in Sound Forge 4.5 > CD set up with CD Architect 4.5 > CD burned with CD Architect 5.0 onto Mitsui Gold CD > Extracted to Internet Capable Computer with EAC > FLAC.

Hope you all enjoy this recording as much as I do. PLAY IT AS LOUDLY AS YOU CAN!!! Please let me know what you think. And most importantly, share it freely with your loved ones and friends.

Notes:

This was another last minute decision to drive down. I intentionally bought seats that would be in line with the speaker stacks so as to have a better shot at a good recording. I believe this is on par with the quality of my Washington, D.C. 1 November recording, except this has a little less treble, more bass, and less reverb. Roth's voice is more prominent in the mix. Like the Washington recording I would give this one an "A." It's not soundboard quality like the one source of East Rutherford 3 November, but it's nice and clear, pretty up front, and almost no audience noise during the songs. The only sounds you'll hear are from the two idiots to my right with their occasional screams. Screamers suck. A couple of times I had to twist and turn to accommodate people walking in front of me, but the loss in sound quality for those few seconds is very minor and is barely noticeable. Overall I'm quite pleased with how this one came out.

Contrary to popular opinion I do not think this was one of the band's better performances. Or should I say, one of Eddie's better performances. To read up on my complete review of the show, go here:

http://www.diamonddavidleeroth.com/...php?topic=18695

FFP file and shntool results included.

P.S. All indications are that Toronto 7 October and Boston 30 October were recorded and will be shared. Still looking for someone to come forward with Minneapolis 24 October to round out the tour so far. Please don't hoard...the likelihood is about zero that you'd get something like a pristine complete Oakland 1981 video for it anyway.

Notes:

I'm too lazy and tired to do a review. I agree with just about everything here:

http://www.diamonddavidleeroth.com/...php?topic=18206

In that thread, someone randomly took pics of the crowd and I happen to be in one of them. Look really closely and you can make out the mics attached to my collar.

This is possibly the best show of this tour, and unquestionably my best recording on this tour. It helps when you have kickass seats, scored by SensibleShoes over at DDLR.com. So give her some credit for how this sucker turned out. The only thing that you could nitpick on this recording are a couple of idiot screamers who are on there from time to time, and people that kept getting up forcing me to twist and turn my body. Since I can't control that, I'm still giving this an A+ grade, fuck it.

Thanks to Shoes and twonabomber for doing the heavy lifting that made this trip possible for my friend and I. It was also great meeting up with TommyV, Guwapo, jgdrag and everyone's spouses and families. I had a wonderful time!

FFP and shntool results included.

All of these are FLAC shows on 3 dvd's (I still have to convert the Glendale & Boston shows to FLAC). My branches must be able to convert these to WAV for those leafs who sign up for the WAV format. Please specify which format you want.

To participate, in any TREE you must meet these requirements:

1. You must be a member here for 6 months.
2. You must have at least 75 posts in the forum.
3. In order to participate in a tree you must have a PC/DVD/CDR burner to sign-up.
4. You have to trade show/s or blank disc/s in order to receive your TREE disc/s.
5. You can only sign up as one and that's either a BRANCH or a LEAF
6. After your 3rd sign-up in a row as a LEAF you must be a BRANCH.
7. LEAFS will be required to trade disc/s to members who missed the sign-up or didn’t meet the requirements.

There is no more signing up as a BRANCH/LEAF, either or whatever needed and you must decide which one you can do for that specific TREE.
BRANCHES will have no more then 4 LEAFS.
Depending on the amount of BRANCHES that sign-up for the TREE the LEAFS may be on a first come first serve basis.
All the LEAFS may not be guaranteed a copy of the disc/s.
There will be a 7 day period for LEAFS to make contact with their BRANCH. If a LEAF fails to contact their BRANCH they are off the TREE. It's all about communication!!!

This tree will end on December 8th at 11PM EST.
