Well, the retail for this guitar is around $1500 (too much IMO, it's not the best quality guitar) Now, the e-Bay selling prices was waaaay more than that. Many people say that you cannot put a price on something like this that one of the masters has played, and we all now that Eddie is a master of the guitar. BUT, I don't agree w/the e-Bay prices, especially considering that the profits are apparently going into Ed's pocket which is already overflowing with cash.
I said before and I say again that the profits might have been better suited to a charity or some other worthy cause, not a guy who's a millionaire 10+ times over.
If someone can show me where the profits did not go to Ed, than I will stand corrected. |

Dude! Did you see his pool? That's gonna require some serious cash to put right.

Nice guitar Richard, one to treasure :thumb:
I'd get a clear sealer spray over that and play the hell out of it.

I'm baffled by this, it's a bespoke stripe job, taped up by Ed, set up to Ed's spec, played by Ed and signed by him. Comes with pics of him and hopefully a dvd... my local store didn't offer that for 1500 :( |

What's wrong with a guy doing well in life and having pockets overflowing with cash? |

| Guitard, I know what you're saying dude, but these guitars are not worth the bidding prices at all. |

So just what exactly is a one-of-a-kind custom hand striped by Edward Freaking Van Halen, played on stage IN CONCERT by Eddie in front of thousands of people guitar worth? |

It's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it ~ and not a penny more or a penny less!!
Seriously ~ it's the law of supply and demand. And obviously, demand is pretty high and supply is rather limited. If Ed starts cranking out hundreds of these guitars, of course, the price will go down. But I doubt that's going to happen. |

Again, I respectfully disagree Guitard. The law of supply and demand is one thing, but when you're the supplier, and you have a product that many people want, yet you are already extremely filthy rich, you've crossed the line.
There's no justification whatsoever for those e-Bay prices no matter how you try and spin it. |

The prices are set by the buying public, not EVH. They are selling for around $15k a piece. Wouldn't matter if the auctions started at 99 cents, they'd still end up selling for that much in the end. If the buying public wasn't willing to pay the inflated prices, the guitars would go unsold, but that isn't happening. |

....just checked the completed auctions. I see that the average selling price is a little lower than $15k, but I was shocked to see that a couple of them topped $50k! That's some serious cash for a guitar! But it's what the market wanted that selling price to be. Sucks to be someone that wanted one of those NY guitars but only had $35k to spend.

| Does the seller not set the initial price when posting an item on e-Bay? |

Sure, but it really doesn't matter. The starting price for these guitars has been $5,150.00
The lowest final sale price was $9,000 - and the higest came in at just over $50,000!
So as long as the seller sets the starting price between $0 and $9,000, it really doesn't matter, as the market has set the price for these guitars to be worth at least $9,000.
Are you not sure how eBay and the marketplace works? |
