Now I'm not a bass player (or guitar player at all for that matter), but I thought I'd see how many other people just don't care for the sound of Wolfie's bass playing. To me, it sounds like a "rattling" sound to it. I don't know how else to describe the sound. It's not the smooth sounding bass notes, but a more striking sound. Since I don't play, could this sound be due to him using a pick for playing, where Mikey didn't use a pick a lot of the time?

Not saying he's not doing a good job, but I just don't care for that sound.

I'm curious if anyone else thinks like this, or maybe I'm just the lone bonehead....

And oh yeah.......

"Dear Eddie,

Please severely limit or completely drop Cathedral out of your solo. You have effectively found a way to put 10,000 people to sleep within 5 minutes as long as you continue to noodle through it. How about play a medley of intros to songs that aren't being played on tour this year?

Sincerely,

Drowsy fan"

Sorry, had to throw that in.

Wolfies bass kinda sounds like the bass player from Korn Reginald "Fieldy/Reggie" Arvizu and I believe he has said in the past he is a big fan of them . Its ok for me, he came up with his own sound

I thought I read somwhere that Wolfie is using the EVH 5150 III amp for his bass. Can anyone here confirm that?

I like Wolfies Bass sound, certainly not a CVH Bass sound but i like the way it cuts through the P.A and his octaves sound dirty in a cool way.

For a 16 Year old kid he is real solid, but has no problem playing a real loose pick style. MA was the exact opposite and was always in the pocket.

I dont like Fieldy/Reggies Style at all, but it has worked for him in Korn.

He was playing cleaner at the beginning of the tour, but now his tone is fuzzier

than before. Not enough bottom end. :(

Wolf's bass tone for both shows I saw was not very deep and which is partly why it sounds so plucky
Plus, if you watch him he plays the bass like a guitar which would also not give a bass a full sound.

I go on another site where some shitbag is telling everyone that there is a bass player behind stage playing along. Says the guy was in Montrose and has played else where. I've watched the Chicago show (only dvd I have) and I cant find any evidence to prove that. Anyone heard anything like this??

I haven't heard that rumor, but I can see how it started. Alan "Fitz" Fitzgerald has been Edward's keyboard tech in the past. Some say he even played keyboards "behind the curtain." Either way, he has been part of past tours. He is even mentioned on the Right Here, Night Now CD. I don't believe he is part of the current tour. Fitz, most famously known for his work with Night Ranger, was at one time the bassist for Montrose, with and without Sammy.

So there you go - someone with a little knowledge is a lot of dangerous.

Yes, he definately was on the 2004 tour, and even supplied backing vocals.

As for the current tour, I closely watched the soundboard area during I'll Wait for the 12/28 Vegas show and saw a guy using a computer to sync the keyboard track to the live band. He was keying off of Alex. At several points during the song he would hit a key in time with Alex, which I can only imagine was re-syncing the keyboard track with the rest of the band.

Well for a song like I'll wait the synth line heavily drives the melody, and bass. When watch meanstreet and romeo delight Wolfie is all over the fretboard which would make it impossible to not hear another bass behind him if there were indeed another bass player in my opinion. Hopefully it's all just VH haters and no legitimacy to this!!

I've heard/read that shit too.... it's so retarded. Wolf is playing bass and some people just can't get over it. I've been to 3 shows so far, and was as close as 4th row center for Charlotte and I know Wolf is playing.

Actually he did play keyboards for Montrose. Bill Church was the bass player for Montrose.

Fitz replaced Bill Church in Montrose after the first album. Fitz was their bass player but did indeed also play some synthesizer for them. Later, Montrose would get a full time keyboardist, Jim Alcivar (spelling?).
