Ummm......yea, Wolfie got the haircut prior to the second leg. Did he get another one? Maybe a nice shave, like me? :D

Review from the Dallas Morning News

http://www.guidelive.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/overnight/stories/DN-vanhalen_0128gl.State.Edition1.3381ef7.html

Wow, we really enjoyed the show. Packed house, lots of energy...everything we had waited for, for sure. A couple of notes:

1) Ed's hand is definately hurting, but it didn't hurt his playing from what I could discern. I saw him bump it once on something and he winced quite noticeably. Not good.
2) Noticed for the first time he still wears wedding ring...interesting as Ms. Bertinelli as sitting in the front of house mix position not 20 feet from us. She draw quite a crowd of photographers for a few minutes.
2) Wolfie's bass sound: What? There was a bass in the mix? This was probably the most "mid" heavy show I've heard in a while. Even Alex's kick drums didn't have their normal low end rumble. Sounded almost as if they didn't have any subs.

But, all in all...we rocked our butts off and my right shoulder is killing me this morning (Hey! Hey! Hey!)

It was my wife's first Van Halen show (and unfortunately maybe her only as Ed's rehab is not working...that's clear...he was toasted on something), and I think she even had a great time...even slipped her shades on with Dave for "Mean Street".

Should be some good footage of this...several unique things (Crowd singing a deafening "Happy Birthday" to Ed, and at least one new little "jam" section I hadn't seen or heard on any clips before...can't remember what it was just now, but it was cool).

Joe Bob says check out the circus when it comes to your town...just too bad we had to wait 23 years for this kind of rock-and-roll extravaganza...

One more thing (now that I'm a little more recovered and clear-headed)..."I'll Wait" didn't come off nearly as bad as I thought it would. I've never been a fan of that song (and thought it was especially horrendous in '84), but it really came off well and got a surprisingly strong response and sing-along from the crowd. Also, I think having the keys/synth on it added some bottom end to the mix which was sorely missing as noted above. It really helped on "Jump" as well, which also came off surprisingly well. All-in-all...it was a strong show and I'm happy camper for getting to see Dave and Ed together again. Hopefully this is an interesting beginning to "something", and not just a fleeting glance into our collective rear view mirrors.

Oh yeah...and the KIDS and GRAY HAIR, including mine, at this show...it was a really weird mix of people and ages. I felt a bit like I was showing up at a high school reunion, but with 20,000 strangers and their kids. :)

Even saw a guy (Grandpa I suppose...mid-40's/early 50's) with a little 4-5 year old girl with the Eddie Van Halen ear protectors/headphones on. Unreal. Never saw that back in the 80's!!!
