What the...?! OK, so that smoking pattern accounts for the two hours he's on stage for roughly 60 nights every couple of years. What about the other 22 hours a day over the past 40+ years he's smoked? That's like saying when he's not playing he's sitting there with a guitar on his lap so he can put the cigarette on it. The guy is a heavy smoker and alcoholic not to mention the drugs. He has abused his body for decades and it fought back. That's what happens.
I know of people who DON'T smoke and never have who wound up with cancer of the mouth from alcohol abuse. Smoking is just a FACTOR in cancer. It's not like cigarettes have cancer in them. They can CAUSE cancer when all of the other conditions are present.

Ed may have smoked for years but I've known people who've smoked much longer. Most of Ed's ciggys burn out on the headstock of his guitars anyways... He's lucky to get 2 pulls. |

Didn't he also say something along the lines that his cancer returned and it was treated with some sort of secret experimental treatment. I work in surgery. Head and neck cancer surgery to be more specific and I brought this up with one of the surgeons earlier today. He couldn't stop laughing about the metal pick thing. This is a guy who has performed the exact surgery Ed had done hundreds of times. Anybody who thinks that smoking has nothing to do with tongue and mouth cancer is fooling themselves.
Besides I don't know anything about Ed's situation now. I just think it sounds a little more serious than it sounded at first. Hopefully he just slammed the car door on one of his fingers or something. Easily fixed. |
