I received this as two audio CDR's, from atomicpunk5151 who himself received it on audio CDR from the taper. Therefore this is either CDR(1) or CDR(2) depending on what the taper did, so I'll conservatively list this as CDR(2). The lineage is what I was told by atomicpunk5151, plus my own extraction from the CDR's. I do not know what was done in the transferring/master process.

This is a nice recording, a little dry but nicely balanced and up front. The sound is Unfortunately there are a handful of minidisc dropouts but you can live with them. There is a cut for a disc change right after the drum solo which takes out around 45 seconds of the beginning of Unchained. You can hear the taper adjusting his gear and resetting the recording levels for the first 38 seconds of that track, and then everything's back to normal.

The show itself is pretty mediocre, mostly because Ed was clearly fucked up. It wasn't as bad as Kansas City 10/26/07 or Uniondale 11/8/07, but if you only want to download the best shows from this tour, this isn't one of them.

FFP file, shntool results and EAC logs are included. All of that, this text file, the arrangement of this folder and the Bit Torrent file was done by me. However please do not thank me, thank "Spike" for graciously taping and sharing, and atomicpunk5151 for sending it to me.

I didn't know if any shows from this 2nd leg of the tour would be
recorded, so I hopped a plan from New York to Dallas. Met up with a
friend in Dallas and we hit this show. Great going to this special show
because it was Eddie's Birthday. The band performed well and Ed's playing
is improved. The sound mix was a little muddy from where I was sitting but
I EQ'ed a little to make the recording sound better.

I was sceptical only having seen VH with the red rocker but I do admit I was impressed with the band overall. Dave was as I had only seen in video concerts and mtv; cocky and very entertaining. Eddie and the band were spot on and really seemed to be enjoying themselves. I flipped disc during Alex's solo; not much was missed, as his solo is always the same. I faded out of the first disc and faded in on the second disc, that is really all the editing I did except for the track splits. I was waiting for another recording to show up, as I wasn't too impressed with the sound of the recording. There was alot of people getting up for beer and breaks, and you can hear me move, so that is noticable, sorry! The show was ubber loud and I was surprised it came out as good as it did. Enjoy the show.

It's been a while since I posted a new show. This is my first torrent that I have made since my DAT M1 went D.O.A. on me and I decided to make the jump to a digital wave recorder. I chose to go with the ZOOM H2 since it was what I could afford and if I decided that recording on a "soundcard" wasn't for me I wouldn't be out of a lot of money. As I monkey around trying to find out what works best for me I submit this recording for your consideration! Since this is a "seemless" wave file recording I split the show at the end of "I'll Wait" as there is a few seconds between it and the next song "And The Cradle Will Rock" (and it also starts the 2nd disc off with a "bang" but can be enjoyed as an uncut concert if you choose to make an mp3 for your own personal use.

Capturing an event from beginning to end is a huge undertaking. Many things to consider when attempting a pull. Even though you might get passed security, then its on to set up ( mics, cables, pre's, recorder) then to your seats, then you hope others around you are not too loud, and you scan the crowd during the show for possible security spotters, then you hit record and you still dont know if you got anything until you get home to check the recorder. Then if that goes, onto post production.

I'd like to thank him for making such a great recording available. Now, for my version. Despite the fact that a better version exists, I had two requests to put this up here. So, for those that wanted it, and for anyone else for whatever reason wants another version of this show, read on.

I honestly never thought I would actually see this show. After failed reunion attempts in 1996 and 2001, I figured Dave and the Dutch Brothers together again was pretty much a dead issue. But, time heals old wounds I suppose, and there I was, sitting in the cheap seats with a few friends, finally seeing the lineup I've waited to see for a very long time.

After an somewhat strange choice for an opening act, the lights went down, and the Mighty Van Halen was ready to reclaim the title that they had lost oh so many years ago. After the Van Halen family trust came on stage, there he was, Diamond Dave. From the first few notes, there was no doubt who was the one and only man who could front this band. Song after song, just a GREAT performance by everyone. I'll admit, it's still a bit strange to see Wolfie on stage with the rest of the Van Halen crew, but that's what it took for me to see Dave where should be, it was worth it.

Now a few notes about the recording. As you can see by the set list, like other shows on this tour, "Little Guitars" is gone, replaced by a bit of "Crossroads" intertwined with "Somebody Get Me A Doctor". Nice to hear the old classic revved up a bit! Even though I knew I was recording, there are two places where I just couldn't hold back my enthusiasm, and you can hear it clearly. That's me during the first song yelling "Diamond Dave" and at the beginning of "Romeo Delight". At that point, all I knew was I was finally seeing Dave with Van Halen performing my favorite song from Women And Children First. Just too cool for words!

As far as the sound quality, well, this unfortunately suffers from recording in a less than optimum location. Our seats were fairly high up, and as a result, the sound was not as good as it was on the floor. Based on a few accounts I've read, this was pretty common during this tour. While Ed's guitar and Dave's vocals were fairly clear throughout, the bass and drums tended to be a bit muddy. As a result, the recording reflects this mix. I did the best I could considering, but because of the sound as it was coming up to us, it's not as good as I would have hoped.

Notes from the taper:
Security was pretty tight coming in (wanded twice) but once in, no problems at all. I was able to knot a windbreaker to the
railing in front of me and clip the mics in position on it during the opening act. I didn't have to hide them in any way during
the performance, and security was walking back and forth on the landing below all evening not knowing what was going on.
There were only two people in my row--definitely tapers in spirit--and they were not talkers anyway. One of the things I like
about the recording is that you get a feel of the crowd below, as well as the music. Great performance, David Lee Roth was
absolutely nuts all evening--he had to have dropped more "f-bombs" than the rest of the tour combined. You'll have to
listen several times to catch all of his constant ad-libs and asides. Hope you enjoy it.

a great show..... the only issue I have is that the vocals were a little too loud in the mix coming out of the speakers.... sometimes Dave's voice kinda distorts like your home speakers do when you turn them up too loud.... you'll see what I mean....I had a security guy staring at me the whole time, not because he thought I was doing anything, but because I was on the aisle about 5 rows from the top of the ellipse, and he was just sitting there with his back to the stage..... consequently, I couldn't check levels and adjust, so my levels were a tad low..... so it shouldn't be an input issue on my end as I even ended up boosting the volume a little.... other than that, it's a pretty clear, good recording.... not much crowd noise, mainly just the woman next to me whistling every once in a while....

Comments:

The second to last date on the VH reunion featured a much tighter performance and more motivated crowd than their previous Chicago appearances. Despite featuring an identical setlist to the fall 2007 run, this show was a full 15 minutes shorter without sacrificing anything -- if anything, the faster pacing made for a much more enjoyable show. Contrary to my own expectations (I fully expected the DLR/EVH pairing to implode before the end of the first leg), the band members appeared to be having a great time. I have never been a fan of Roth's vocals with the band, but he sounded good even though he's lost some range over the years.

The recording itself is okay; I'd grade it a B or B+. This was recorded side-stage in a near-empty section; there were very few people near me and as a result there are few audience "interruptions" on the recording. The fidelity isn't great (after all, I was in the balcony of a hockey arena), but the balance is very good and echo is not as much as many other shows in this horrible room.

I'm posting this as an alternative to the other recording from the floor that surfaced on DIME shortly after the show -- that one, I felt, was really "in your face" to the point of distortion, and though enjoyable, I thought this might offer an alternative sound. (No disrespect intended for the other taper -- his source is enjoyable as well.) Check the mp3 samples for yourself to determine whether this is worth your bandwidth. I figured as long as I was converting it for myself, I may as well offer it to the die-hards who would like multiple sources to choose from.

Notes:
I was very surprised that I pulled this good of a recording from way back in the arena. The mix was GREAT; for the first
time this tour, I could hear Alex's drums clearly. Ed's playing is fantastic, Dave is a little off but acted like classic Dave.
A lot of energy at this show but overall it's mostly the same as the shows the past few weeks. During "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout
Love" we were getting updates about the Red Wings game and with :30 left it appeared we were going to close it out.
At the time, it was 3-2 and I (dumbass) declared "WE WON THE STANLEY CUP!!!" Seconds later, my friend receives
a text message saying Pittsburgh tied it, oh well.

As always, don't sell my stuff and please only convert to mp3 for iPods and such, DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THIS
IN MP3. THAT GOES FOR ANY PERSONAL FORUMS WHO HOST BOOTLEGS, DO NOT POST THIS IN MP3.
