| Ok guys, so here is the deal. A friend came over tonight so I could give him a few of my VH dvd's that I have aquired through this freakin' awesome site and we started going through all of my VH items that I have. The item that really got him going was the Frankenstrat replica I made. He couldn't take his hands off of it! Anyways, he is a great friend and I love him dearly(not being a homo) but he thinks that he knows everything. As we were going through the things, I came across a 2 album set, Whiskey n' Gin from 1977. Some tracks were recorded at the Whiskey a Go Go, some at Santa Monica HS and others are various studio outtakes. He said, "Holy shit dude, this thing is worth a fortune! Where did you get it?" Then he says, "Man you should put this(the album) on Ebay as well as the replica guitar, you would clean up!" That brings me to my question. I have NO plans of selling either item but is the album worth anything? Again, I am not selling it, I guess I am just curious what it is worth. Any idea of it's value? |

| I wouldn't say the album is worth a fortune, especially since all that stuff is available on CD, for download, etc. Plus I'm willing to bet the sound has been upgraded and better sources for the shows have been found since the vinyl came out. Bottom line - you ain't gonna get rich selling it. |

It's real value is that it's a vinyl album version of the boot, as opposed to a CD version. There are people out there who like collecting vinyl and will purchase it as a collector's item. Having said that, even if it's in great condition, it probably isn't worth that much - maybe $25 - but that's just a guess based on what other similar items are worth. Of course, ultimately, it's worth what someone will pay you for it - and not a penny more.
Regarding upgrades...I doubt that the original source tapes still exist. Any CD version that is now available was probably sourced from a vinyl album. Of course, someone could have recorded from the album to a computer and worked on it in Pro Tools (or a similar program) and cleaned it up so that it sounds better than the original vinyl album version. But even if that's the case, the only way to create the unique tonal qualities produced by an analog vinyl album recording is by playing the vinyl album itself. Some people greatly prefer that over a CD. Personally, I haven't listened to a vinyl album in so long, I forget what one sounds like. |

The only rarity is that it is on vinyl with deluxe color cover. There were probably about 1200 pressed. I have seen it go as high as $60 and as low as $15. Two LP set I would price it at $35 mint condition Goldmine Grading.

| That is what I thought, thanx for the replies. It is in mint condition, cover looks brand new and both albums play perfectly. I can now go to my bud and tell him to take a flying leap! |

Not that it matters any more at this point, but my gut reaction was $25-$30 bucks.
Only the most rare items will bring more, and then only if you can hook the right buyer. |
