to my understanding those are compressed formats....something like mp3s. They are used for portable devices ( ipods, psps, etc ). If you plan to watch them on a tv on a dvd player the picture might look bad. If you want to make them watchable on a dvd player still . You can try using Nero or something to drag the file into " create a dvd "...i think that might work.

You might wanna get a dvd player that plays DivX dvds. You can watch avi files straight on those dvd players.

True...but...

I watch xivid (dvix) movies all the time on a big screen tv and in spite of them being compressed to a fraction of the bitrate found in mpeg2 files, they look pretty damn good. In fact, other than moments when there is a lot of movement, they pretty much look the same as a well encoded DVD (IMHO).

Ah.... I should have mentioned that I have a dvix box (box with a harddrive in it that you can hook up to a tv). So I can play them directly with no conversion.

Converting them will almost certainly result in lower quality because they are already in a very compressed format.

I believe TMPGenc DVD Author (which has a 30 day free trial offer) can accept the files and render them DVD compliant with minimal re-encoding.

I'm circling back around to this topic because I have had some difficulties with some DivX or XivD files recently. I couldn't convert them to MPEG2 to burn to DVD and watch on my TV. In the past I had used S.U.P.E.R. (I had received that recomendation from www.videohelp.com and it seemed to work great for many different files but these new divx files I downloaded it wouldn't work on. Also I tried TMPEnc and it converted the video but there was no audio. After consulting VideoHelp again I am trying bbMPG ... I should know tonight whether or not that works. If you are interested try PM-ing me and I'll let you know how it went.

Get a program called ConvertXToDVD3, it converts avi/divx files to DVD in great quality and it also sync's any audio issues as well. Go to the Pirate Bay and download the program for free via Bittorrent, somebody will share it there with the required codes or passwords.

I use nero and always burn xvid avi to dvd.Plays fine on my DVD player.Quality is not as good as regular dvd but what I use it for works.I don't generally like to use it for music boots though.

On nero you just have to go to create and edit files. Then to make a dvd and it lets you go to your files in your hardrive and drag it in.It takes almost as long as the movie to burn though on too dvd.I mainly use it for wrestling dvds or porn where I don't care about the quality as much I usualy would for concerts I won't download a torrent of a concert in xvid or avi unless it's not available in another format.

The quality is not that bad though.
