Thx for putting this up, Scoobie - the Station fire was a terrible tragedy. Agreed - one big name could have put this show over the top. Every rock band has played a venue like the one in Rhode Island at some point. As Dee Snider said, if 100 people died at an opera performance, the cash would be flowing and the opera community would be up in arms.
The country music people 'stepped up' more than the rock comminuty did, for sure.
BTW - JK had the flu for 2 weeks on that leg of the tour, including that show. Figures - Tesla gets some national exposure and their singer is sick as a dog... |

I actually know the mother of one of the guys who died in that fire. He was a huge VH fan. After it happened she received an autograph copy of the lyrics to Dreams from Eddie Van Halen along with a note. She also received a nice letter from Michael Anthony. Here is a link to the website his Mother and close friends set up for him. http://www.ry2k.org/
I see his mom about once every 3-4 months. When I first met her it was about 6 months after the fire happened. She was very torn up about it. She always sort of lectured me about looking for exit signs when I go to clubs. The funny thing is we started talking about it one day when she came in to our company. She is a sales woman, and in our parking lot she noticed a car with a license plate that read VANHLN and asked who it belonged to. That was the start of our friendship. Ever since then when I see her we talk for about 10 minutes, mostly about her son and a little about VH. She still misses him deeply to this day.
You are right, it could have been any one of us, our brother, sister, dad, mother or friend. |
