Melodicrock mentions...
LIVE VAN HALEN DVD COMING!:
Good news folks - the David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen 2008 tour will be captured and released on DVD! One reader Eric, who just returned from the latest show sent me this message: "At tonight's show in NJ, Dave told the audience that it was the first night to be shot for a live DVD release.. I was very impressed by Eddie tonight.. he looked and sounded like the Ed from 1995.. Dave was, well, Dave... Wolfe did a good job, but Mike was badly missed, and Alex held the whole thing together..."
Sounds good to me!
A guy at the links has also commented on what Dave said at the show, although worded different?...
Just got home from the Meadowlands show in NJ tonight, (5/13/08) where Diamond Dave announced that they are filming that show as well as the rest of the tour for the Live DVD they will release!!!! With that being said the band truly kicked ass tonight!!! It was a flawless performance.....
Anyone here who went to the show remember what Dave actually said? or noticed more film crew than normal?
let's hope it comes off, maybe after the tour they'll give us a dvd? Let's hope Ed doesn't fiddle around with too much in the studio. |

| Lets hope they do it right. Besides the performance, how about loading up a second disc with a bunch of extras...some backstage, some outtakes...SOME ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE. With LWAN and RHRN having none of that stuff, lets hope somebody gets in Ed's and Al's ears and suggests throwing out a few goodies for the faithful who've been fans for 30+ years. |

I was at the show last night and can confirm Dave said that. I can't quote him word-for-word, but he said it was the first night they were filming for a live DVD! I'm under the impression they're filming the remaining shows - not sure if Dave said that or it just makes sense. I think he said it. He made a comment that they've been doing this for 30 summers and implied that it's basically about time.
I did not notice more cameras than usual, but I was in the 8th row on the floor, so I didn't get a good look at the entire arena.
One other thing I found interesting, last night Dave said see you soon or in the summer at the end of the show. I didn't catch the last word. Anyone else hear what he said? I know that's pretty cliche, but I mention this because it was my 11th show of the tour, and I most recently saw them in Atlantic City last Friday, and it's the first time I heard Dave say that at any of the shows I've been to. |

I remain, as I always do when it comes to anything Van Halen related, cautiously optimistic. I remember Sammy saying the same thing about the 2004 tour, and we're still waiting for that DVD.
Ed and the band cannot resist fiddling in the studio. I'd bet a dollar it will happen.
And as for archival footage? Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're lucky if there is any bonus footage.
Having said all that, heck yes, I will be buying it.

I'm still waiting for the free show that Sam said he was going come back and do at the Blockbuster Pavilion in Devore to make up for the fact that it rained during that evening's performance.
He said it on 3 May 2003, and I even have it on a recording of mine. |

Dave, I know what your saying... but this bit cracked me up :yell:
I think I'd rather buy a dvd of 'Powerful ways to break wind whilst sitting on a block of butter'... volume 1 than relive Ed's painful '04 tour. |

| Personally, I think having the San Diego undoctored dvd from here is better than an official group production release. What we have here is the real thing, not some kind of re-mastered commercialized made to sell dvd. I want Oakland 81 with the Mighty Van Halen |

Remastered and redubbed.
Dave's vocals are much better than when I saw him live solo, but he's not the Dave of old.
One thing I did notice...I never saw him wearing any in-ear monitors during the shows I attended in Kansas City & Omaha. And, in Omaha I was 5th row from the stage and looking hard to see if they were present. For someone who might not have been wearing any, he did do a good job of staying on key. |

| The thing that always bothered me about watching all the vids was how it appears Dave is speaking into the microphone and a very faint sound is heard? Could be nothing? |
