As most everyone here knows, when I tape a show I use MD. I like the crisp, clear sound I get from it. But, the last few shows I've received back from the person who masters them for me all have something in common. I keep hearing a "fluttering" like sound during the playback, almost the same sound that a helo makes.

After taping a show, I've never really noticed that sound during playback. Maybe it's because I'm not paying close attention and Im just worried about the audio quality, who knows. I have 110% full confidence that this annoying sound is not the result of the person who's doing the mastering, because he's told me he hears it before, during, and after the mastering process.

Well, I just got 2 shows in the mail the other day that I taped last year (yes, I will eventually be torrenting them) and this sound is all over the recording. But, I only hear it after the music stops, in between songs when the artist is doing their rap, because the music obviously drowns it out. It's not wind, because like most of the venues I've taped at, this one was an indoor arena.

If anyone else here uses, or has used MD for taping purposes, do you know what the hell this sound is, or how to prevent it? It's been bugging the shit out of me for the last few years. Other than this crap, my recordings are coming out flawless. I can't exactly go back to Japan and buy me another MD player/recorder, either.

Thanks.

Vince,

You might be able to get some help here, because there are some tapers at VHTrading. But I would recommend going to http://taperssection.com. That site is dedicated to audio taping and has hundreds - make that thousands - of very experienced tapers.

Word of warning: don't use the term "boot" over there unless you're referring to the kind you wear on your feet.
