My (very subjective) notes from Guitard

The new audio makes a huge difference - without it, it would have been just another 2007/8 Van Halen boot vid. The filming is OK, but nothing special...at times it has that effect of looking like it was filmed from a boat out on a lake where the waters were a little rough. And either the filmer's camera didn't have adjustable exposure, or the filmer just decided to go with the default exposure setting and hope for the best. The result is that the picture is frequently over-exposed; especially Al.

There are several audio drop outs. If it was only a split second, I usually didn't mess with it. So you can actually hear the dropout itself. If it was longer, I filled in the gap with the cam's audio. The result is that you get the continuity of sound, but you can definitely tell something is different about the audio. The quality of the audio is not consistent throughout the show. But it still sounds very nice, has very good separation between instruments, and really makes a huge difference in overall DVD production quality and enjoyability.

The show itself: I'll give it a solid A-. It's not one of those special nights when the band is on fire, but Ed misses very few if any notes, Dave is in good voice, and most importantly, the band is fairly loose and having a good time.

I inserted very high quality still pictures whenever a camera duck lasted more than a few seconds and during videotape changes.

Don't read too much into my critique. I tend have a very critical eye when it comes to filming because I do a lot of it myself and I like for people to know exactly what they are getting. This is a DVD that I'm sure everyone will enjoy very much.

Randy

I'm noticing that everyone is signing up as a branch - doesn't that mean that you already have the DVD and will be distributing it to the leafs? I'm a little confused.

It doesn't necessarily mean they already have the disc. But, you are correct....it would help to know who already has the authored version. So, when signing up as a branch, please indicate if you already have the disc.

Thanks, guys!
