For anyone who is interested. Pictures in other threads (cabosanlucas139 and the 2 VH's) posted by Dirq and a big thanK you to him.
Phoned John at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville around 2pm in the afternoon. He said i am on stage setting up so come on down. After some discussion and a phone call to John security let me in with an escort. Once with John we were taken to collect our passes backstage. After that we went for a look round backstage (photo of John beside Video editing gear in the other thread and beside big mic). On to the stage next for a few shots behind Alex's drumkit and some discussion about set up of equipment etc.
Wofie's bass tech and Tom Weber then said hello. Wolfie's tech handing over some picks This was followed by the tech's jamming to a few VH tracks as they were setting up (pictures in other thread).
Tom Weber then gave us a peek at Ed's hang out and his Guitars. Of course i asked the question "can i have some picks" He said i will sort you out later.
Sound check was supposed to be around 4.30pm and we were scheduled to watch this. The weather was very bad and Van Halen were sent to another airport and then were stuck in traffic due to an accident. This means the soundcheck was unlikely. We were leaving the Arena about 6pm when John shouted "hang on their here" Within about 1 minute VH were on stage jamming. Pretty cool as we thought there would be no soundcheck and we were the only people in the arena apart from tech's and security. Soundcheck was short at about 4 songs but then the arena was due to open to the public. I was thinking if they sound this good i am in for a real treat tonight.
Went for a couple of beers and then headed for the backstage area. Tom Weber stops me and says"don't move" He comes back with the Ed picks i asked for earlier. It's then off to Al's dressing room for a chat before the show. We say hello and are chatting when Wolfie walks in. He tries to leave and i say no chance jump in the picture (as shown in the other threads). Time's up and the band are due on stage. We say our goodbye's and head for the Arena.
In addition to the picks i was given a set of Al's 2008 drumsticks, Al's 2008 used concert drumsticks and a drumskin signed by Alex used at Raleigh,NC on the 5th May. I have to say a huge thank you to Alex and especially John Douglas for the hospitality extended to us.
And finally a word from John. When i mentioned about the 2 drum tech situation he laughed. The other guy was there until he had finished his commitments and rejoined Alex. The picture of him standing with his 2 fingers up is in reference to this. He just wanted everyone to know.
Van Halen rocked   |

I did meet Ed in '95 at the Balance Premier at Air Studios in London. 2004 was the year Nick is talking about. I really think Ed should just have handed the guitar to me after the show ;) |
