After seeing Brian's pics - to include the one of Ed's pedal board - I thought I'd post a pic of Adrian Belew's setup. I saw Adrian's last Friday here in Tampa. Strictly in terms of pedals....Adrian wins.

Back in 1984 I used to get ridiculed by older musos on the local music scene for the number of pedals I had....................... a grand total of 7............big deal!!........ how times have changed!!! :D
Interesting to see Ed is using an MXR Chorus pedal as well as his usual Flanger and Phase 90.

I wonder if he ever gets clausterphobic.
But seriously, with that much going on you can plug in a tooth brush and it would sound just like plugging in a guitar. Adrian kicks major ass but I guess he's never heard the term less is more? |

Maybe if he got just one good tube amp he could dump some of the effects
(it's just a joke, so no need for anyone to get defensive. The "tube amp snob" in me sneaks out occasionally :D ) |

According to the guy that built it, Racksystems, the chorus hardly ever gets used, but he did mention Pretty woman. |

Okay...here is the rest of Ed's setup and a few quotes from David Friedman from Racksystems.

The head goes into a dry center cab. A line out that I made is taken off the head spk line and it feeds a pcm70. The pcm splits to stereo and on either side he has a Roland sde 3000 delay for stereo echo then to a h&h v800 power amp. The power amp powers 2 more cabs and there are switches on the board for the pcm 70 and the sde3000 delays. The pcm 70 is used for cathedral. Heads are stock cabs are stock. On the pedal board all the pedals are in true bypass loops except the wah.
No midi in the rack the pedals are in true bypass loops.
Then it hits a bs2 balanced to the rack. He got rid of all harmonizers in 2004.
Yes there is a complete backup rig in the rack.
The MXR Chorus is just there for a couple of songs like pretty woman. Yes, he runs through the rack effects without a mixer.
Those units sound great almost better running through them. The pcm is only used for cathedral
and maybe to get alot of delay in some solo spots. The 3000's do the stereo echo around 250ms
and 500ms w a few repeats. The Bs2 buffer is able to balance the signal to the rack and then at
the rack it is converted to unbalanced to go to the head. This makes for a noise free 100ft run
with no losses. David Friedman
