For me, as long as chapter points are put in the right place ie start of each song and that some text is added to the menu starting date and location then I am happy.

One thing I really dislike are long intros and logos etc like you get at the start of pro DVDs. I find them totally un-necessary and I get annoyed having to waste time spooling through them. Some times you cant even fast forward through them... that really gets my back up!! My other pet hate with authored discs are when a very short audio loop is placed on the main menu page.

Its all about the content as far as I'm concerned....... I think of it this way......if someone brings you a birthday present how long do you spend looking at the wrapping paper?

Chris.

I'd much rather had authored discs with properly placed chapters, my pet hate is sections you can't skip. This is more a problem with commercial discs but I'd rather decide whether I watch a section or not.

Amen, I hate that too. That and watermarked logos over the video of the show. Get over yourself already, you don't have to constantly remind us who authored the show throughout the duration of the whole goddamned video.

I'm not sure. I have a few shows that are authored, but I'm not really sure if they were worth being authored.

Going on to somthing different, when I got Midas to do some authoring for me I got him to put full songs they were different from what was on there (ie : slayer demo's on the 2 disc mix). Which I really liked.

I guess my answer would be maybe :) :) :)

I like menus with songs selections. I don't always watch the whole show and it's easier for me to go to the menu and find what I'm looking for. I also enjoy the artwork some menus carry.

I like to have menus on boots, but Its not a really big deal, to me. I voted for - "proper chapter points no menus". As long as there is a date/location of some sort, then that is fine.

Like Chris UK said, its all about the content... if you have the worst filmed boot ever, giving it a really fancy menu doesn't make it a better boot does it?? :p

Just a nice clean start to the disc, maybe a menu still, chapter points to each song and little white paper sleeve with band name and show date... that's a boot :D

I don't mind authored discs as long as there intro's are short and sweet, but I do dislike official soundtracks playing away in the background, always makes the actual show soundtrack sound inferior. That said I'm NOT knocking all the great authors that do their stuff... but it's easy to over do the razzle.

Yeah that pretty much hits the nail on the head. I would add I do find the track menus on authored discs quite handy.

When I was putting stuff out a year or two back, I often got others to author discs for me, because I know the majority of people want PC authored discs. I do also really appreciate the amount of work and skill that goes into authoring, there are some very talented authors out there now.

Chris.

I voted for the authored discs but I agree with the comments already made. Short and Sweet Intros are best and the audio on the menu has to be long enough that it is not a quick little loop that drives you insane. The other thing about the audio during the menu is that it drives me insane when the audio during the menu is so loud and then when the actual content is started the audio is very, very low or the reverse. I try to use some of the audio of the actual show during the menu so it is consistent.

Also I guess keeping the intros short and sweet, does speed up the authoring process a tad?

Anyone else wanna chime in????? Rad was good to bring this up and ask for opinions... he's doing them for our entertainment
