Upton won't rock this year

Upton Farm will not rock this summer.

Saying the asking price was just too much, the P.E.I. government has walked away from negotiations with American rock band Van Halen.

The province had been in talks with the band for the past few weeks to play a major outdoor concert at the Upton Farm site around the Labour Day weekend.

However, Tourism Minister Valerie Docherty said Tuesday the band suddenly jacked up its asking price in the neighbourhood of $4 million, way too much for government's taste and far beyond what the band was initially asking for.

I'm thinking that if you just wanted DLR for the party, you could do that one on a budget.

Wes,
If we take up a collection here at VHT we might be able to collect enough money to have a Van Halen garage cover band play at your back yard parties.. What will it cost maybe a keg and some food??? :D :p :D

So why didn't they go with the initial offer when it was (by the sound of things) within their price range?
