I know there is a lot of discussion about the Largo 80/81/82/84 videos... especially with the VH 07 tour.
I was reading on another forum, and one of the threads made me think about this...
One of the fan members acquired the House-Feed for a show, in the 1990's, and when he emailed a band member about this, the band member had no idea it even existed, even though it was 'pro-shot'.
Weren't the Largo's house feeds? not pro filmed by the band?
I mean everyone thinks that Ed has these shows locked up in his vault, but maybe he doesn't? I mean weren't these shows taped from inside the venue, by a employee?
I remember reading this article about the guy who supposedly taped the Largo 80 feed on a VCR, and thats how it came about, I found the link here a while ago, In an old thread.
Just a thought... sssh |

Two things ~
1. Yes - I believe they were all in-house feeds.
2. Band members frequently give vague answers ("I know nothing about it") to such questions because it's a very easy way of quickly ending a discussion about something they don't want to discuss. I'm not saying that happened with your friend - but this happens a lot. |

| Somebody out there has this stuff. Most likely they aren't even Van Halen fans, and the tapes are just sitting in a box somewhere collecting dust. :( |

People use the phrase "pro-shot" video but it doesn't always mean that a band has hired a film crew to record their performance for a specific reason. It just means that professional cameras were used & that it was recorded. Most "proshot" videos are just as "bootleg" as an audience shot video, its just that the recording was made on the sly from a "professional" source rather than a camcorder in the audience.
I would be willing to bet that anything that may be in EVH's "video vault" has never been on anyone's boot list, hoarders or not.
I think it's funny how so many people think EVH is a dick for depriving them of their natural born right to view Van Halen footage that MIGHT HAVE BEEN recorded & MIGHT be in EVH's personal possesion. I doubt EVH would even have a clue that there is Largo footage out there... |

| i don't think the band has much, because i know a bass player from a band who is good friends with michael anthony and a big vh roth fan,i gave him the us fest and largo and he said mike couldnt't belive he had, it,now i may be wrong but if the band don't know about it ,then the venue must or someone else must have it,and yes mike was still in the band when the guy told him or showed him the video |

The venue (Capital Center) was demolished in 2002 I think, Correct me if I'm wrong.
I remember in the article I read it said that once the tapes started appearing in 1980, there were FBI investigations?
They are obviously out there. I'd be prepared to bet whoever circulated the Aerosmith show, and any others, is the source behind the shows... |

| Someone has the Largo 80 video. Otherwise, how did the partial (obviously chopped at the beginning and end of the tape to preserve the value of both the video and audio) and now well circulated housefeed audio get out there? |

I read an article sometime ago about Largo and the Pro-Shot videos coming outta there. The main focus I believe was Springsteen so if you want to go looking for it you may try searching on Bruce Springsteen. Apparently there is a fairly detailed and notorious story behind the whole thing. It was sometime ago that I actually read it and can't remember all the details but basically shows were being recorded without the band's knowledge. I think some shows lost the audio or video or something but I can't remember. I do remember that it was an interesting read.
The other thing that interests me is the Pacific Title videos. I believe that's what they were called. Where the band had a couple shows recorded for them. ffoner seems to have the best knowledge of those and had a scan of the request or whatnot. Those I believe the band would know about and probably have locked away somewhere.
I also recall a rumor that the Oakland 81 show the band has but for various reason not in releasable quality, exactly what quality, who knows. I believe I heard someone say once that David had mentioned once that he had spoken with Al and Al had been watching the Oakland 81 footage. I was kindda surprised by that but little surprises me anymore. So who knows. |
