I recorded show on new S.D CARDS(Sandisk 2 GB).However 2 of the three cards have the DCIM,MP3 and Ebook folders empty. However the space used on the cards indicate 1.18 GO(used space) and 720 MO(free space) on one card and 898 MO(used space) and 1.01 GO( free space)on the other, corresponding well with the recording times of each. Its like if the video is not linked to the Folders on the cards thus making it impossible to view on camera or extract to P.C.
The third card was a Crucial 2 GB and the video went to the DCIM folder making everything fine.
My questions are: Is there some avenue I could look into in order to extract the utilized space on the cards?
Could it be that, that much space was taken on cards with absolutely nothing on it thus impossible to view or extract.Everything was going smooth when recording was taken, indicated REC and time.
Thanx |

| First a few questions: where did you buy the cards and how much did you pay? |

Hi Guitard,
Bought them from a P.C store called Micro-Data here in town and paid them $10 a piece.I called the store, spoke to a repair man and he told me perhaps the card was defective.I then told him that both cards had the same problem and he said he had no idea of what to make of it.
I even asked about the problem on Fixya.com for the Jazz DV 179 and some guy said Coke and Pepsi are the same.I have no idea to what he means! |

The reason I asked where and at what price is because there are many fake memory cards out there for sale and usually price is a very good indicator of a fake card. This is one of those products where you really do get what you pay for. eBay is the worst place in the world to buy memory cards - you'll get ripped off almost everytime - and are virtually guaranteed to get ripped off if you buy a card on eBay that is well below the "normal" price at a reputable place like newegg.com or bhphotovideo.com.
It looks like $10 isn't a bad price for these.
So my next thought is - are these the proper cards for your camera? I don't know much about SD cards, but I know for my digital cam, I can't use a standard Sony memory card to shoot video - it has to be a memory stick pro-duo card (which costs a little more).
What often happens is that ripoff artists hard code a lesser card so that it appears to have more storage than it actually has. For example, they'll take a 256K card and hard code it to look like a 2GB card. So when you put it in your camera, the memory indicator says it has 2GB on the card - but really it doesn't have that much. And when you go over the actual limit on the card, you can't access the file(s). It kind of sounds like this is what you're experiencing, but it's hard to say for sure. |

Did you format the cards in camera before your started recording to them for the first time? Sometimes that has to happen depending on the camera and how it organizes files. My still camera requires all new cards to be formatted prior to first use.
One suggestion for trying to extract the data, try an external card reader hooked up via USB to your computer and see if that works although that will probably be a longshot since you can't view straight from the camera. |

| I am working hard on this. One thing I did was to use the (Card Recovery v 4.10 build 1220)software.It did see the hidden huge file(which should have the show on it) when I used the software on the Camara. However one has to purchase the file because the demo does not check mpeg4 files and other types of files(only the purchaseable software saw the file). If I was a P.C WHIZ I would probably have this thing resolved. However I am a 47 Factory worker with limited P.C knowledge. |

That's good. At least you know the file is there. The problem is just accessing it. It figures that the demo version of the software won't do exactly the one thing you need it to do. How much is the full version of the software? |

My P.C got contaminated big time with viruses and spyware from IE Antivirus(SO MUCH SHIT).Using my older P.C now.I brought the cards to the same guy that will fix my P.C. and asked if he could try to extract files.
Anyhow on a better note I did get to film about 54 minutes worth of STP last night.Got there a little late, parking is hell. After 54 minutes of filming ,I was asked to put away camera. The video is not to bad but the sound is disturded.I also added the V.H JUMP(the only song I could extract so far from V.H.)on the same DVD.I will also try to film Linkin Park on Sunday and will send them out to a few guys on VHTrading. |

My P.C repair guy extracted the sd files onto a DVD.However he can not play back for some reason that he explained. He told me they were AVI files and would try different types of software to make them viewable. If he is unable I will try sending them out to someone who is a whiz on transforming types of files on VHT.
The biggest issue from my filming of these three shows,V.H,S.T.P and Linkin Park is the sound. It is distorted and very low quality.Hopefully someone taped the sound from these shows so that my Video could be used in sync with some other sound source or as a second cam.
I filmed the Linkin Park under Rainny conditions but the show was Awesome.I listened to it the next day on the DVD.The video is good but the Audio is so loud and distorted it is total shit.STP video is ok and V.H is so and so if I rely on the Jump video that I can view
Does anyone know if the V.H show was filmed or sound recorded |

Glad to hear you were able to recover the files. AVI files can usually be played through Quick Time but VLC media player works just as well as you have discovered.
As far as the sound goes, check the mic. I don't know if your camera has it buried somewhere or if its exposed somewhere on the body of the unit. Record someone talking in a room in your house, record some audio off a TV, turn on your stereo and let the camera roll. If the audio sounds bad in all 3 situations, then the mic is probably bad. Either that or there's some internal audio gain setting on the camera that's cranked way up. If only the louder audio is bad, then it may be the gain thing again or you've just exceeded what the mic can handle while recording and it's distorting because it's overloading the input. |

| Would like to thank Randy for taking the time to finalize this project. As far as an Alternate Audio Source,I have none.Perhaps one will surface some day.Just came back from the post office and its out in the mail on its way to Korea.I would also like to thank Pierre Lemieux(buddy at work) who was the mastermind in the work around of all this.I am just now seeing the show because when you film you don't really see it.You are so busy trying to get a clear shot and etc,you don't get to appreciate the show very much. |
