Wow, cool pics!
Notice the "unknown local band" part...some poor guy's defining moment now reduced to obscurity :D |

I've met Susan Masino and have her RnR Fantasy book. I've even guested (sort of) with her in the studio on her radio show when the VHE came out. You can get more information and buy her books here: http://www.susanmasino.com/FrameSet.htm |

| Does anyone live near Bay City, MI? I'm willing to bet that the concert made the Bay City Central HS yearbook. |

| I'm looking at Neil Zlozower's "Van Halen- a visual history 1978-1984" and was wondering if the pictures in the 1978 section pages 48-53 are from the Aneheim show? The caption talks about Oakland, CA but the venue looks pretty big. |

Does anyone else find this surprising? Even in 1978 Van Halen was a little big to be playing a High School, ys they weren't huge but a High School? Also look at who else is on the bill ... Bob Seger? Bob Seger is HUGE in Michigan and in 1978 I couldn't imagine he was performing at a High School. This just seems really odd to me. Maybe it is just me. |

Now that I'm thinking about it ... Night Moves came out in 1976 and was in the top ten in 1977. In the summer of 1978 Stranger In Town came out. Seger had hits like, "Night Moves," "Rock & Roll Never Forgets," "Hollywood Nights," and "Old Time Rock & Roll." He would have been huge around this time and especially in Michigan. Yet this has him playing a High School (given a High School Stadium) and opening for Van Halen (who at the time only had out their first album. Now I'm a huge Van Halen fan and think they are way better than Seger but in 1978 Seger was a much bigger act. I'm also not saying this didn't happen it just strikes me as being so weird. |
