Quote: Van Halen with Dave appeals to men, and the party mentality.

I also can't stand when people say they would enjoy it if it was named Van Halen; that is asinine.
One is not better than the other. My mood dictates what I listen too. However, I think of the Dave era as a one trick pony and the Sam era as having more variety. I like variety.
Wow... I don't know where to start. The Links - Bah! No thanks on that group of Spambo lovin' retards.
The 'love' aspect of the Spambo catalog is not a pointless argument - he RUINED the band with his soft shit. When he wasn't writing about lovin the love that he loves when he's makin love he'd be writing on the level of a 13-year old. Sammy and good songwriting should not be said in the same sentence. If you skip more of the CVH catalog then Hagar's garbage that's your problem - you don't get it. Period.
And yes, I would have appreciated it if they would have changed the name in 1986... they watered down the VH brand from 86-95 and then again in 04 for old times sake.
To not have an opinion as to which you prefer is mind blowing to me. Can you really go from 'Romeo Delight' to 'Feels So Good' and be OK with it??? Variety - HA! 78-84 was EVH's creative peak - everything else since has been auto pilot. |

| VAiN, chill with the name calling crap. No need for that. This isn't the army. This is a Van Halen trading site for ALL eras of VH. Respect that, please. |

As far as the "party, party" w/ Dave, he's one of the few in the business that can still pull it off at his age. It's still fits him and for me, it's one of the many reasons why when I listen to classic VH it puts a big smile on my face! It's all attitude... :D
i couldn't find any better reason than this one to explain my feelings for the van halen music :thumb: :D |

This like usual has a pretty decent start to a thread and then blows off to another level :furious:
THIS IS A MATTER OF OPINION!!!!!
CVH VS VAN-HAGAR: Actually the root of it all is VAN HALEN!!!!!
There are no RETARDS or KINGS in this ...Its just an opinion in which we are all entitled to.....
Now this thread will be closed if it continues in this direction..

And hats off to that one. Nothing like a healthy debate. Who cares at the end of the day it is all about Van Halen and that is what we are all here for
I personally love the early Sammy solo stuff and some of the post VH material. I also thought the Van Hagar stuff was cool in a different way from the CVH music and was very impressed with what i saw in the US. Lets all hope we see some new material to compliment the tour and see them out on the road again :D |

My teenage yrs co-incided with the Roth/Hagar change over, as a kid I loved all VH albums. However looking back now the band on the Roth albums has a vitality/swagger/funkiness that the Van Hagar yrs could never get near - also the lyrics on some of the Hagar yrs albums are really puerile.
I'm not a Sammy hater - I really like the Hagar albums and if that was the only version of VH that ever existed they would still be among my favourite bands but CVH is IMO much better |

CVH - VAN HAGAR - VHIII
It's all Van Halen, which I love very much and keeps my motor running cheers me up when needed.
But that first impession is priceless. The first time someone gave me Van Halen II, it blew my mind.
Never heard anything like it...........that counts for all the CVH albums.
The Van Hagar period was different. Musically but also personally. Got to see them live a few times. I grew up in that period. My wife loved this period. I always could not understand why they could not get Sammy to play all the old tunes.
VH III was too short of a period to have an opinion. I guess it had more potential then came out. Too bad. |
