Is there a Freeware program out there that I can put my VOB Files into, to do Fade Ins/Fade outs, cut ect?

I filmed my Nieces Wedding this past weekend, and converted it to a MPEG2 file and went to put it into Microsofts Movie Maker and it doesnt recognize the files.

My experience with Movie Maker is that it is garbage. Admittedly I have little experience with it but I didn't care for it from the start There are a few Freeware programs out there but they are all pretty difficult and very limited. I suggest paying for something decent. My favorites are Vegas Video, DVD Architect, TMPEnc, Womble, etc.

Dirq,
I DO hve Nero, but seldom use it.
Let me take a look at it.
Thanks

Adendum: I couldn't find anything in Nero to help me so I'll stasrt from scratch.
I have (7) seperate MOV. Flies taken with my Digital Camcorder of my Neices Wedding.

I used "WinAVI Video Converter" to change those MOV. Files to MPEG2 and then burn them to DVD.
After doing this, (and trying to play it in Power DVD, I get an error message of "Unsupported Format".
So I tried burning it again and I got like a Menu at the beggining with 7 little pictures and it said "Select" or "Play All", but none of the buttons/pictures in that Menue worked.
So then I burned a 3rd copy using just the VOB files, and got an "unspecifed Format" from Power DVD and it closed up.

Amybody have any suggetions?

When you converted the Quicktime files to MPEG2 format, did you make sure that they were converted to MPEG2 for DVD's, not just MPEG2? Maybe the aspect ratio wasn't correct, or the bit rate is too high?

Sounds like you need to start with a real DVD Authoring program and go from there...

I'll check into that Ron.
I just didn't know it would be so complicated.
It was a present for my Niece and I thought I'd just shoot and slap em' on to a DVD.
I'll check it out.

Adendum:
I just went into the program and there was a selection for:
MPEG1
MPEG2-(which I used)
DVD

I went into "Advanced Settings" and at Default it is:
Constant Output Quality
You have:
Highest Quality-(this is what I've been using)
Higher Quality
Medium Quality
Lower Quality
Lowest Quality

Under "Video Setting" you have Encode Mode by:
Speed
Quality-(I've used this)

Aspect Ratio:
16:9
4:3
Auto

Audio Setting:
Audio Bitrate 192000
Encode Mode AC3
:yell: :yell: :yell:

I've used this to convert many formats to DVD compatible mpeg (including mov). It also allows cuts (though I don't think fades).
I don't know of a freeware to get the mpeg to authored DVD off the top of my head, but Nero definitely has the ability to build a simple menu based DVD (look under Nero Vision, or off their Smart Start menu it's called something like Make Your Own DVD Video).
Hope this helps...

I'm guessing that you should have chosen "DVD" here? Don't hold me to it though, as I'm not familiar with the program you are using...

ULead will let you download trial versions of their software....I would suggest Movie Factory, it's pretty simple to learn, and will do exactly what you need.
