Hey anybody else catch Rush on the Stephen Colbert Report on Wednesday night. He said it was the band's first US television appearance in 33 years.
They played Tom Sawyer - and were 1/2 through w SC dissed them by cutting to a commercial break. :furious: :furious: :furious: Could tell but the band didn't look to happy - and were still playing after the break.
No respect - maybe that's why no TV appearances. :(
anyway...........

| That really sucks, having a huge band like Rush on, only to cut them off, even on similar shows, bands are allowed to play a full song. That is really too bad :(. |

I think you missed out on the joke.
Colbert had been joking the whole show about how long their songs are. At the end of the show they were still playing and I've heard the next day's show they were still playing at the beginning of the show. It was a joke about how long their songs are.
I recorded it first show on the DVR and watched most of it and I have the next day's show recorded too but I haven't watched that yet.
I thought it was awesome.
It also wasn't 33 years ever, it was 33 years since they have been on U.S. television. They have made individual appearances on Canadian TV and else where but not on U.S. TV. Eventhough I have it on the DVR I hope someone recorded it to DVD. It was great! |

Geddy has said on Rockline in the past that they have had offers to do late night TV talk shows in the US but there are always strings attached (i.e. shortened songs or this or that). They haven't ever wanted to do that. I guess being on the Colbert show was a little different as the whole thing was just fun.
One of the best comments was when Colbert asked if they have a name for their fans and Neil replied, "They all have their own names." I thought that was very funny.
Apparently the whole thing is on the Comedy Central Web Site that you can watch it.
It was also funny that at the end of the show they were still playing and Colbert took out a pillow and went to sleep at his desk while the band was still playing behind him. |

That wasnt the funny part. The funny part was when Colbert asked if their fans were called russians. |

| Well, I just got to see the start to Thursday show. Pretty funny, as I was told Rush opened Thursday show still playing. It all goes back to Colbert asking them about how long their songs are. They started playing Tom Sawyer on Wednesday's show and played it throughout the show. The funny thing is that at the beginning of Thursday show they weren't playing Tom Sawyer which I would have expected but instead they were playing the outro to 2112. That was really runny. I may have to record my DVR onto VHS and then have a friend of mine with a DVD Recorder record the VHS onto DVD so that I'll have it archived. Great stuff. |

Yeah I got the "joke" and to be fair the whole show on Weds had kiind of a Rush vibe - w SC reciting the lyrics to "By-Tor" but still I would've rather had the whole Tom Sawyer and had them skip to question and answer part. BTW I noticed that Alex didn't even get to butt in during the Q&A.
But good stuff anyway.
