Hello All,
If anyone can get both Shea Stadium shows, I can do 2:1 trades for a copy. The show dates are 7/16 and 7/18.
Thanks,
Mark |

| Unfortunately, I'm one of those who can't do all of that downloading stuff, which is why I usually do a 2:1 trade... :( |

I've only listened to a few songs, so I can't speak for the show in its entirely - but from what I've heard so far, it sounds great. At least a 9 on a 10 scale - probably a 10. I checked a couple of songs throughout the show (disk1 - disk 2 - and disk 3). I was prompted to download it after reading this review at another forum:
So last night I attended the first of two shows Billy Joel is performing at Shea stadium. He is to be the last musical performer to have a concert there before it gets torn down in the fall.
I must say, that after walking in the ridiculous crowds to get up to our seats, and then sitting in uncomfortable seats for an extra half hour before he went on the perform, that I was a little deflated. By the time he came on I was tired an almost done for the day. But then the music started....
He may have put on a few pounds, and his voice isn't as flawless as it used to be, but the man still knows how to rock. He played some of his more obscure songs from the 70's along with some of his best hits, and even covered some Beatles songs. Then, just as you get comfortable with how he's working the crowd, and you start to expect that any second he'll start playing "Italian Restaurant" and then head into his encores and be done, he started playing New York State Of Mind again (he opened with it) And now we're left wondering what the hell is going on....and thus starts his rotating group of guest players.
Tony Bennett came on to play "New York State Of Mind."
Being a song of youth, John Maher came on to do the guitar riffs during " This Is The Time To Remember."
Then it got a little crazy....Billy started doing an instrumental but then suddenly as guitar started playing out in the background and out steps Don Henley to sing "Boys Of Summer."
So then after the crowd recovers from that, he goes into the song he wrote for 9-11 and has a bunch of cops and soldiers perform with him. And then they leave the stage and Billy plays "River Of Dreams" which calls for the young woman on stage to play bongos. At the end of the song he introduces her and explains how he stole her from another musician and says he'd like to welcome that man out on stage right now....
and it was John Melloncamp coming on to sing "America."
Somewhere the 5 year old version of me, who to be fair, 15 years too late was in love with "Johnny Cougar" and cried when mom wouldn't let her take his albums to kindergarten with her, was overwhelmed with joy.
Then to top it all off, when the final guest left the stage, Billy Joel stayed and played for another 45 minutes. Except for when he let his special guests take the lead on songs, the man never took a break. He started at 8:30 and went until 11:30 and his energy never ran out.
It was a fantastic night, and a great way to remember Shea Stadium.

I can't access Dime from my office computer - so I can't provide a URL. But just do a quick search there and you should easily be able to find it. |
