I have a couple of questions about DVD players....
I've heard about DVD players that can be 'unlocked' to play PAL DVDs...Is this true? If so, is there a specific DVD player that anyone can recommend that will play ALL DVDRs with no problems? |

| most of the newer dvd players play both ( PAL and NTSC )...you also gotta get a recent tv...not one that is 20 years old..lol.... Most new tvs ( LCD and Plasma ) can play both too.....It doesn't have to be those expensive dvd players either....those cheaper ones at Walmart or some elctronic store will do just fine . |

| Another thing to look for is upscaling on a dvd player. |

I have unlocked one of my old dvd player years ago with a few push of the buttons on the remote... I think I got the code from www.dvdrhelp.com many, many moons ago. |

There's nothing to unlock for the format. The player can either handle PAL or it can't. It won't be advertised on the packaging, you'll need to know what you want. Do some research, but Philips players are a good bet and are inexpensive at less than $50.
What needs to be unlocked is the region code. This is only important if you're planning on buying commercial discs from another region. I've never received a disc in a trade that was region specific, so you shouldn't have a problem there. I bought a PAL player a couple of years ago and only unlocked the region this summer so that I could watch something bought in England.
If this is your plan, make sure that you can find the code for your specific model before buying it. For Philips players, it's usually something like 'open the tray and press the following 5 numbers on the remote'. The last number will be a zero, indicating 'region free'.
Hope that helps... |
