Hey guys
The time has come for me to buy a new computer.
After reading reviews and stuff, watching demo videos, etc.
I decided to switch to Mac.
Im gonna buy an Imac, only im not sure which one
There are 4 models to choose from
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac?mco=MTE3MDM
I will mainly use it for authoring dvd's, video-editing and related stuff
My wife likes to play with pictures, and we both surf the internet, download mp3, email
Im not an gamer (on pc) so i wont play games on it.
Can anyone advise me...
- what model to choose
- how much memory i need
- hardrive?
- videocard
Thanksss |

Hi There,
In answer to your question.....................GET A MAC!!!!!!! I have had one for almost a year and love it. So much better than a P.C. (I think.) I use it for editing with Final Cut Pro. Burning a disc...............no problem. I have the 20 inch IMAC computer. Hope this helps. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! Good Luck.

I have 3 macs and have been on macs for ever. How much do you want to spend is the question. My buddy just got a 2.4 Ghz 24" iMac with an 8X superdrive shipped to his door for $1699. I think that for the average user that would be a nice set up. If you can swing the extra few hundred, get the next processor up, I think it's 2.8? The base HD is 320 gigs, that's plenty big... and the superdrive is the same in all models. Put as much ram in it as it will handle. It's cheap and totally worth it. It's easy to install yourself.
If you want to do heavy duty video work, then you're better off with a mac pro tower and juice it up as much as possible. A nice set up can easily cost you 3-4k.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I'm always glad to help steer people towards macs. |

| I'd recommend the 24" model, as it has the best graphics card. Also, a larger hard drive may be wise, since you can't really upgrade anything but the RAM. |

You can swap the internal HD if you ever want to, and i'm pretty sure the video card isn't part of the board,so you could replace that if you ever had to - but you'll never have to. You'll want to get an external HD at some point to keep your shows and videos on as to not bog down the main drive that's running the OS. |

I got a Western Digital 1TB drive shipped to my door for $250, so yeah, they're cheap as hell! |

I've had both PC and Mac for the past 10 years or so. Mac is awesome for video/audio, but a heck of a lot more expensive than PC (not only the computer itself, but it seems all peripherals are more expensive as well). Fortunately I used to manage a music store that sold Macs, so I got all my software as NFR's.
See if you can get in touch with GG. She works for Apple and I'm sure up on all the latest specs. |
