I've begun archiving my VH bootlegs, and I started with the 1998 Japan tour. Well, I only got 1 done before I realized that this is most likely going to be an exercise in futility. I've successfully ripped and xferred "The Only One" (Live in Tokyo), yet each subsequent one always stops in mid-rip. I've used both Windows Media Player and dbPowerAmp's CD Ripper, and so far I'm getting non-rips or errors when I try to rip. That tells me the data, though they were all on Taiyo Yudens, has started vanishing. All of my discs are in absolute mint condition. To say I'm pissed would be a gross understatement, especially since I paid top dollar for these shows when they were initially released while living in Japan.
I'm afraid to even try ripping the remainder of my VH boots, which is a shit-ton, because I'm sure the rest are the same, if not worse. Guys, I'm so upset I can't even put it into words. |

| Did you do this using that drive you've been having problems with? |

| Yes, but IMO it doesn't make any difference. I've been ripping music with the same drive all week, completing a total of 47 discs (each and every one a CD-R) so far and I didn't run into any problems like I did with the VH boots. And, like I mentioned earlier, I was able to completely rip one VH boot from the '98 Japan tour without any difficulties. |

for sake of saving the collection, try ripping on differnt drive, different computer etc.
Send a disc to someone and have them try it. |

| I'm gonna give it a try on my laptop and see what happens. I just wasn't in the mood to try it last night. |

I'd lose the Windows Media Player if I were you... but keep the dbPWR Amp. :thumb: |

I just restarted this project again, seeing as how I now have some more unexpected time on my hands, and I need some questions answered, please.
Rather than start with some of the later shows I acquired, I'm starting from the beginning. I just noticed that 2 discs I archived, "Oldest Lost Tape" and "The Warner Bros Demos-That's All Folks!", ripped perfectly. Yet, if some of you recall, I initially stated that while most of the data on the discs from the '98 tour were intact, some of them started to experience vanishing data, a live music enthusiasts worst nightmare when dealing with burned shows.
"OLT" & "TWBD-TAF", for example, are on CD-R, but the ones I have are gold-backed CD-R's. I purchased these before I ever bought any of the '98 tour shows, which are all on green and blue-backed discs. Basically, what I'm trying to figure out is, how are shows/discs that I've owned much, much longer outliving the '98 tour discs? Something to do with the burn process, I take it?
The only annoying thing I've noticed is that when I insert a disc into my CD drive, I'll do a "test play" to check if the data is intact. On some discs, whatever song I choose, usually the last few songs on the disc, play normally. That tells me "Okay, this disc is fine and it should rip problem-free." Yet, as soon as I begin the ripping process, when it gets down to the last few songs on the disc, or even towards the center, that's when the ripping process halts. WTF??? |

| Well, I tried ripping "Shotgun Wedding" with EAC, and the same problems I encountered with Windows Media Player occurred with EAC. "Shotgun Wedding" is a 16 track disc, and it got as far as track 12, "Eruption", before giving me an error report and the rip process ceased. So, it's obviously the disc. I'm sure the same thing will happen with any other VH boot I attempt to rip and archive. |
