| Does anybody else see the Fuck Van Halen logo with a black-eyed frown face? It's at the top of each page next to the VH Trading logo. |

I put up a temporary new logo up this morning. It's the way I feel right now and the way a lot of VH fans and webmasters feel, also. :( :( :furious:
Be prepared for anything... |

We've gotten few bizarre news during the last few months, but these latest are wayyy too absurd to understand...
It wouldn't surprise me if all VH products (CD's, LP's, videos) would be withdawn from stores soon. Maybe we'll have to return all the official products we have purchased during years. |

What might you be referring to...Boot Trading sites?
Why is all of this coming down...is Ed just mad at the world, especially the internet world, or is he setting up for something in the future?
I'll be honest, I can understand the replica guitar thing, but not the use of logos on non-profit web sites. I'm extrememly confused by all of this.

Naw...all the albums, cassettes, and CDs have kept a steady income for the band over the years. Hell, Van Halen 1 and 1984 have each sold something like 3-4 million copies a piece during the 1990's...not bad for "catalog" albums. |

Chet You're not the only one confused. I completely understand (and somewhat agree) that Ed should have the right to trademark what's his. But this is ridiculous -- going after loyal fansites that make little or no money (and some LOSE money)? And to do it when the hardcore fanbase's opinion of VH is at an all-time low? It's beyond me... :irked:
Moving this to site/board feedback. |

It depends on what the future holds. IF this site stays up and IF I'm able to meet the terms of the license, the VH logo will remain. If I can't use the logo, maybe I'll just stick a picture of a CD in the logo or something. ;) |

| This whole deal sucks  .It would be kinda hard to go after the traders though,BUT to go after something like vhboots would not surprise me at all. There used to be a site called project ballentine that was dedicated to zeppelin boot artwork and all of the sudden that site and anotherone like it(can't remember the name)got hit with cease and desist papers from I assume Page and Plants people(I assume anyway). Also in the wake of the RIAA with napster and all that I personally think sooner or later they will try to get rid of boots which is vertually impossible to do now with the intrenet and all they will just go deeper underground.Ithink I'll get off my soapbox now. :irked: |

FUCK!!! Eddie, vai pra puta que o pariu!!! :furious: I can certainly understand why everyone is upset over the recent brouhaha. I can also understand why Ed's lawfirm would do what they're doing regarding copyright/trademark infringement - up to the point where they go after the fansites that make no money off the logos, etc.
It would, however, never affect the love I have for the music they have made thus far. Their music has been/is a part of MY history. Good times and bad times - things I never want to forget or block out, just because they're making mistakes in the judgement department now.
I can remember the first time I heard Van Halen music, the first album I won (county fair) and the first live CD I had the pleasure of listening to. Since I have stumbled upon this site, my love for their music has increased exponentially, and I have had the pleasure of enjoying hours of their music all over again.
Their current actions could affect my purchase of their future (musical) releases, but it will never affect my love of the music they have "given" us thus far.
I will wait and see how things pan out in the near future and enjoy their music in the meantime. I hope things turn around. And if they ever shut down the fan sites, we always have email, phones, and the US Postal service, and will always be able to share our love for the music they have given us in the past !
No offense, Fabio. I've had the displeasure of being pissed at them in recent times, as well. |

| I agree with Yerfdog, they can't take away what they've already given us, so I'm gonna enjoy it, even if the artist is an a**hole. :thumb: |

| Well, if Scott takes the logos down; how could they shut the page down? It's a personal; non-business site. If there are no Van Halen logos; then there are no infingements on copyrights or trademarks. I doubt they can copyright the letters "vh" in the name. What right would they? It's not illegal to TALK about boots; just SELL them. I would think they'd hit e-bay before here (though they think they have no legal grounds to hit here if there are no logos). |

I see the "Fuck VH" logo is back, and I'd really like to throw my 2 cents in, so please bear with me.
Being a long-time fan, (since '79), and buying all the albums, t-shirts, tour programmes, concert tickets, (for several shows throughout the U.S., and Canada), I've got to say this "stings". Don't get me wrong, I appreciate, (to a degree), how VH is looking out for their own interests. Nobody likes to get ripped off, or have their product mis-represented. Case in point, some years ago, a guitar company, ("Hondo"), was putting out poorly made guitars with the trademark VH stripes. Ed had to go to court, to get them to stop. I can understand not wanting your name or look associated with an inferior product.
However, (and here's where the "rant-part" comes in), maybe if VH made AFFORDABLE guitars, everyone could enjoy the VH look. Intellectual property ? C'mon Ed, gimme a break. I guess that means that the United States government could turn around and go after Joe Perry of Aerosmith for painting the stars and stripes on his Gibson Les Paul. We're talking about 3 colors arranged in a hap-hazard pattern, not fuckin' DNA research !!
The reason we all gather here, and TRADE, NOT SELL here, (and I think somebody should also pass this info along to the VH lap-dog Mr. Starks), is because we LOVE VH, and their music. Maybe if VH got off their collective asses, and back to work making music, Ed wouldn't be so uptight, greedy, and money hungry. This is a non-profit site, so what if there's a VH logo or two ? No one gets hurt, least of all Ed, because we're actually keeping the VH spirit alive by discussing and TRADING here. You can't say the members of VH are doing anything to keep the VH spirit alive, (except by going out of their way to piss off a loyal, through thick and thin fan base).
Finally, you'll forgive me if I feel little pity for the VH camp. I seriously doubt Ed and the boys need the money. It's not our fault Warner Bros. dropped them from their roster. Maybe Ed should head over to Mike's house, and confiscate his collection of boots, (as we all know Mike's an avid collector).
I'll always love VH. There are times when I catch myself thinking of the good old days when I'm listening to both commercially released VH product, and boots, (i.e, Montreal '84). VH has the power to change things, and I mean in a positive manner, not by pissing off the fans. Oh, BTW, just so we understand each other, I know I don't own a part of the VH corp., or Ed when I buy the record. Maybe that's why I no longer buy the record, because of artist's attitude.
This has done a lot more harm than good, and I can't help feeling a hot heaping helping of anger towards one of my heros right now. Thank you, and a good day to all. Remember to share the music, even if others no longer want to, or care to. :( |
