OK, gang! Here it is! I should have the discs by Monday, so I'm posting the sign up for the tree now. As always, please follow the rules below.
1. Send your full name and mailing address as well as your email address to dallas82@vanhalenaudioarchive.com.
2. State whether you wish to be a branch or a leaf.
PLEASE NOTE: BEING A BRANCH MEANS YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIP OVERSEAS OR TO CANADA. YOU WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED TO DO A MINIMUM NUMBER OF TRADES FOR BLANKS. I WILL DO MY BEST TO MAKE THESE INSTANCES AS FAIR AND EQUAL AS POSSIBLE. THE MORE BRANCHES WE HAVE, THE FEWER SETS EACH BRANCH WILL BE REQUIRED TO DO.
3. Attach your trade list or send the URL to your list along with this email OR if you wish to trade 2:1 for blank CD-Rs, please specify.
As with all of my trees, failure to follow these rules will result in you being left out of this tree.
PLEASE NOTE:
*I will ONLY include those entries whose emails include all of the information requested above.
*If you post your info in this forum, you will not be included.
*I only request this info up front to make arranging this tree fast and easy for me and for your branches. This way, the branches can have their trades selected before contacting you. They will also have your mailing address and contact email info which allows them the opportunity to have envelopes ready for mailing before they even receive the discs. This all serves to speed up the tree!
*The only people who will see this info are myself and your branch.
Lastly, this all came about in the past couple hours, so I don't have a set list or a review of the quality. All I know is that it's out and a set is on its way to me tomorrow.
I'll keep everyone posted on the status of the discs and when they're mailed out to the branches.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRY IS FRIDAY, MARCH 12TH AT 11:59PM EST. THE TREE STRUCTURE WILL BE POSTED HERE ON SUNDAY, MARCH 15TH.
:thumb: A HUGE THANKS TO MR. RON HIGGINS FOR SEEDING THIS ONE!!! |

The discs have arrived!
Notes on Dallas Diver:
- About a B+ mono soundboard recording. I would say that it sounds very similar to the US Fest and Largo ‘82 videos in terms of the mix and recording quality, only it’s not stereo.
- Audience noise is very low.
- Audio is a bit muffled. I assume this is from trying to eliminate tape hiss. When EQ’d, obvious static and tape clicks are revealed, but it doesn’t distract from the show.
- There are many edits, or tape breaks, throughout the show. Whether they were intentional or not is anybody’s guess. It could be the work of the source as a way to track where his copy of the show winds up, but unless you’re the source, there’s no way to know for sure. Here are some of the cuts and flaws that I noticed. There could be more, but these stood out to me.
1. Dave’s talking is cut out between “Runnin with the Devil and “Jamie’s Cryin’
2. “Everybody Wants Some cuts in the usual spot, probably to flip the tape, at about the 3:12 mark. It cuts out after the first chorus and picks up at the breakdown where Dave tells his story. Interestingly, it’s the same story as told in the Largo, MD 1982 video, only the young waitress is from Dallas.
3. There is, what sounds like, a very brief skip at the 0:56 point of Hang ‘Em High.
4. There is a cut in the tape at the 3:55 mark of the “Girl Gone Bad jam.
5. There is a cut at the very start of “Intruder.
6. There is a cut at the very start of the guitar solo.
7. There are two close cuts at the end of “You Really Got Me. One is at the 5:17 point. The second is at the 5:24 mark.
- Regardless of these little flaws and breaks, which I should add do not have silence between them, this is a very enjoyable recording. A little EQ or audio editing software work makes the show sound much better.
Look for the tree to be posted either this evening or tomorrow before noon EST!

| BTW that same story, the one where he goes, "She grabbed my hand" and the crowd boos and then he goes, "Alright she grabbed my dick, what do you want" is found in San Francisco 9/14/82 and 9/15/82 and I'm guessing many other 1982 shows. |
