Just a quick question for those with the panasonic (stand alone dvd burner). For some reason when I burn a dvd-r disc it will go for about 30 to 34 seconds and than stop recording. Than "error has occurred" will apear. When I record with ther dvd-ram disc it works fine. Any advice? At the moment it looks like I'll be taking the machine in tomorrow to see what they tell at the store I got it at.

I just got one of those and according to the owners manual that came with mine; (which could be differnet than yours), it means "a serious, but temporary error has occured and one of the units safety devices has activated." All I can say is use the manual, and if that doesn't fix it take it back. I'd be interested in knowing what happens. I've only used mine so far to record to the hard drive. Good luck! Later Alan

I'll let you know what happens. I read the manual and that did not help, so I'll be taking it in today. What kind of blank discs do you use with your's? Have you come accross ones that did not work? So far I've only used memorex. I bought 2 packs of five and 1 pack of the three. The first pack of five and the pack of three worked fine, but on the second pack of five the first one worked and the next three all had the same problem. I have not used the last one yet. I've only had the machine for a week, but I guess things happen.

get a pc burner. They are cheaper and you can do more with them.
Just my 2 cents |

I have not used mine to record to a dvd yet. I've only used it to record to hard drive and set up a playlist.
One thing about dvd's. I purchased a box of Sony DVD-R's a few months back and only 2 of them worked. I was going bezerk. I sent them back to Sony. Sony never wrote me anything saying that they were defective, they just replaced them. I've got a stack now of about 15 that for what ever reason won't burn. When that stack gets big enough they'll be going back too. Later Alan

Ok, I think I things back on track.........for now (lol). I was told that the memorex burn at 1x and 4x speed and the panasonic burners like the ones that can burn on 2x (or something like that). So I was given a mexell disc and it works. Bought a pack of 5 (it was on sale 5 for $9.99). So if they work it looks like that will be the brand I stick with and I'll stay way from the memorex brands. :D :thumb:

Ah you went to the Future shop good place to buy blanks. So if your Panasonic likes the discs that burn at 2x what happens when that speed of blank media is all gone.I think as burners get faster the media speeds are faster and the slower ones get left behind.Hey what model did you buy? My buddy just bought a Panasonic and he hasen't had a problem yet. LMK and i'll see what media he uses. :thumb:

DUHHH on my part. I guess that would be burning in real time or can you burn faster if you have a recorder with a HD? Talked to my buddy and he said he's been using the 4x Memorex in his Panasonic unit.He did use some of those Mitsumi disks that were on sale at Future Shop but it spit out 5 discs at him with a RECOVERING message on his recorder.Hope that helps you.

I got the panasonic dmr-e50 (no hard drive). I burn in real time. I also burn my cd's in real time as well. The main reson why I got it is to put my good shows (music/hockey games) on disc. For most part my trading days are over and I'll be doing very little dvd trading.
