I have a question, say you get a DVD-R burned show in a trade and you burn DVD+R, would you have a problem ripping/burning the DVD-R show on a DVD+R?

No, DVD-R and DVD+R are just what is playable on certain DVD players. (Players not writers) DVD-R's and DVD+R's have both advantages and disadvantages which are totally beyond me to understand. ;) Alot of DVD writers will only write to one or the other; while other dvd writers will do both. But burning a DVD-R to a DVD+R is easily do-able if your writer will write to -/+. :thumb: :thumb: Later Alan

Thanks for the reply aschiftner, say your DVD burner drive reads both DVD+R and DVD-R but only writes DVD+R would you have a problem ripping the DVD-R to your harddrive and then using your DVD+R burner to burn it?

No, and that is all you would be able to do. If your dvd writer can read - and + ,but only burn + then that is what it can do. :p The real question is what type of dvds can your dvd player read. (So that you can watch them). :thumb: Look in the owners manual of your dvd player and it'll tell you. My DVD player uses -. Others use +. But I have burned DVD-R's and put them on DVD+R and visa versa and have had excellent results.

Maybe this analogy will help a bit...
You've got a text document on a disk and you want to transfer it.
DVD-R = 3.5 inch disk
DVD+R = 5.25 inch disk
If the file is on a 3.5 inch disk and you want to copy it to another 3.5, you just copy it to your HD, put in another 3.5 incher and copy. If you want to copy it to a 5.25 inch disk, you can easily do it, but you've got to have a 5.25 inch drive. If you've got one, you just copy the file to a disk inserted in that drive.
The text document is the same regardless of the disk it's on.
It's the same with files on a DVD. Regardless of whether it's a "-R" or a "+R" - the files are identical.
Many people liken DVD-R vs DVD+R to VHS vh Beta. This is a mistake. There is considerably more compatibility between DVD formats than there (was) between tape formats.
