Hey, I don't know if any of you guys ever do this or if this information is even of any interest? :sus:

Every year in Seattle, one of our local Rock stations (KISW FM 99.9) does this "999" best songs of the year thing? Each year, I compile some useless information to see just where Van Halen is being rated and how the various "Singers" of Van Halen are doing in their solo years?

Of course we would all rate our favorite VH tunes at the top? Here is a look at what people think in 2003 of Van Halen & the Solo Singers in the Pacific Northwest?

Here is the breakdown of how much VH is actually remembered or still liked these days?

# 40 Eruption/You Really Got Me [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 59 Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 70 Runnin' With The Devil [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 77 Jamie's Cryin' [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 83 Panama [VH with DLR] [1984]
# 93 You Really Got Me [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 96 Heavy Metal [Sammy Hagar solo Pre Van Hagar]
# 102 Hot For Teacher [VH with DLR] [1984]
# 111 Feel Your Love Tonight [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 123 One Way To Rock [Sammy Hagar solo Pre Van Hagar]
# 136 Unchained [VH with DLR] [Fair Warning]
# 278 And The Cradle Will Rock!!! [VH with DLR] [WACF]
# 290 Jump [VH with DLR] [1984]
# 299 I'll Wait [VH with DLR] [1984]
# 302 Finish What Ya Started [Van Hagar] [OU812]
# 311 Everybody Wants Some [VH with DLR] [WACF]
# 355 Somebody Get Me A Doctor [VH with DLR] [Van Halen II]
# 370 Dance The Night Away [VH with DLR] [Van Halen II]
# 376 Best Of Both Worlds [Van Hagar] [5150]
# 379 Beautiful Girls [VH with DLR] [Van Halen II]
# 401 Ice Cream Man [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 405 Feels So Good [Van Hagar] [OU812]
# 417 Drop Dead Legs [VH with DLR] [1984]
# 439 Black and Blue [Van Hagar] [OU812]
# 455 So This Is Love? [VH with DLR] [Fair Warning]
# 497 Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy [Sammy Hagar solo Pre Van Hagar]
# 509 Bad Motor Scooter [Montrose]
# 515 Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do) [Van Hagar] [Balance]
# 534 Right Now [Van Hagar] [F.U.C.K.]
# 543 Little Dreamer [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 552 Top Of The World [Van Hagar] [F.U.C.K.]
# 557 Atomic Punk [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 578 Why Can't This Be Love [Van Hagar] [5150]
# 582 The Seventh Seal [Van Hagar] [Balance]
# 596 Intruder/Pretty Woman [VH with DLR] [Diver Down]
# 602 I'm The One [VH with DLR] [Van Halen I]
# 638 Red [Sammy Hagar solo Pre Van Hagar]
# 640 Take Your Whiskey Home [VH with DLR] [WACF]
# 660 Little Guitars intro/Little Guitars [VH with DLR] [Diver Down]
# 663 Dancing In The Street [VH with DLR] [Diver Down]
# 725 Dreams [Van Hagar] [5150]
# 729 Mean Street [VH with DLR] [Fair Warning]
# 742 Love Walks In [Van Hagar] [5150]
# 745 Poundcake [Van Hagar] [F.U.C.K.]
# 767 The Dream Is Over [Van Hagar] [F.U.C.K.]
# 769 When It's Love [Van Hagar] [OU812]
# 874 Runaround [Van Hagar] [F.U.C.K.]
# 883 Summer Nights [Van Hagar] [5150]
# 954 Can't Stop Loving You [Van Hagar] [Balance]
# 961 Me Wise Magic [VH with DLR] [Best of Vol 1]

Here are 20 Observations I saw and opinions by me about the songs and their rankings for 2003? Some make complete sense and some are just plain weird this year?

1.) 28 Tunes were by Van Halen with David Lee Roth.
2.) 17 tunes were by Van Halen with Sammy Hagar.
3.) The very 1st Van Hagar tune comes in at # 302?
4.) "0" tunes came from the Van Halen 3 album!
5.) Only 4 Tunes were by Sammy Hagar in the Pre Van Hagar days.
6.) 1 tune was by Montrose with Sammy Hagar at # 509?
7.) "0" tunes from Gary Cherone or Extreme.
8.) "0" tunes from David Lee Roth solo?
9.) "0" tunes from Sammy Hagar in the solo Post Van Hagar era.
10.) More people in the Seattle area Like "Classic" Van Halen With David Lee Roth than the other 2 eras. Nobody in Seattle likes the VH 3 Era!
11.) 45 tunes by some version of Van Halen out of 999 total selections this year? People must still like Van Halen or remember who they used to be? This is a good thing. :thumb:
12.) Slightly surprised that only 1 Montrose tune was on this list this year? "Dancing In the Street" beat out "Rock Candy" which was not even on the list?
13.) At least one song from every DLR Van Halen album, including the "Best Of", showed on this list this year.
14.) Every single tune from "Van Halen I" was selected except "On Fire"?
15.) Have David Lee Roth's & Sammy Hagar's recent tours in the last 5 years helped keep the Van Halen Music alive? I think it still does?
16.) Have Eddie Van Halen & Alex Van Halen's absence from the music scene and lack of any new material in the last 5 years hurt their popularity? I think so?
17.) Would "some" reunited form of Van Halen with new music and a tour help these guys boost their popularity again? I think it would!!!
18.) Not 1 Van Halen song was even in the TOP 25 or in the TOP 10 tunes picked this year?
19.) Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" which "usually" comes in at # 1 on most rock lists or at least in the TOP 5, came in 15th place?
20.) The Number one tune picked this year was "Enter Sandman" by Metallica??? Weird?

In my high school everybody knows who KISS, Ozzy, Metallica, Aerosmith, and Def Leppard are. But whenever you ask them if they like Van Halen you get "who is Van Halen?" So I guess the absense of music from Van Halen has had an effect on popularity with the youth end of the public.

Very interesting, I agree to the most part with your observations, of course some were fact so I have to agree with those but I'm talking about your stated opinions, those agreed with and the facts were interesting.

Seattle eh ? Sounds pretty cool, except of course for those Seahawks, I'm a Packer fan, sorry about that.

Any information on the demographics of the people polled for this? I like seeing a lot of Van Halen up there regardless, and I might look at some information on there myself to gain some other VH statistics, but I am curious about the type of people that took the poll, the number of people that took it, (and on and on)...

I didn't really see any sources for the info.

A surprising amount of young people still like them except that they don't have the new "cool" image such as System of a Down or Tool. But if VH will come out with a new album and maybe Eddie gets a hair cut then I think they will have a really good thing going for them.

Funny story here (actually its quite sad):
I was in a guitar shop last week and noticed one of the employees was wearing a VH shirt. I commented on it and asked where he got it. Then younger(about 18) employee came along and jokingly asked, "Who's Van Halen?". He then went on to tell a story about a friend of his. And this is his story:

About a month ago I was with my friend and he says, "Man, I was listening to the radio today and I heard this sweet new band." Then I asked him,"Cool. What's the bands name?" His reply was,"Well, have you ever heard of Led Zeppelin?"

I would have to think that this was take from a younger demographic. This post makes me think of what is the best VH album/CD?

I wasn't finished yet... Anyway, I think that Balance & F.U.C.K are the best VH w/Sammy CD's and are up there with all the VH w/DLR CD's (I was never a huge fan of 5150) but the era that surrounds I, II, all the way through 1984 is so important in my life that it is hard not to get shivers up my spine when I see the early VH videos. And I hope you're kidding about that guy's "story."

Watching Live:RHRN, Eddie looks 15 years older than he really is, but as soon as he cut his hair for Balance, those 15 years went away with it. As for the story, the guy I heard it from swore to me it was honest truth. That only makes it worse.

Very interesting, thanks SeaVH! I listen to 3 local rock stations (classic, Hard/new Rock, Hard/classic Rock). they regularly play VH. As mediocrity, repetition and corporations take over all the radio stations.... Sometimes..!... They pull a rabbit out of their hats and play Drop Dead.., Hear About it.., “Where Have All the Good Times Gone!? nuff said

my drummer nailed his vintage 82 Alex poster to our studio wall. This poster has been through thick&thin, stapled 100 times! he's 38 years. I met friends because I was a VH fan.

peace

I like the guy, but God knows he's had that cut long enough! They need to get a fresh look, but not something like Ed wearing that stupid Jester's hat he had on in VH3. And I don't think Alex has much hair left to work with?

I am a teacher and the other day I played Eddie's solo form LWAN for some students who are musicians, they are all aware of VH but not real in tune to the music, but I am working to change that!
