Scott wrote a program for me a while ago that does this very thing. We hooked up our tape component to the computer, and used this program to transfer our tapes into wavs.
If you have any trouble let us know. I'm positive Scott can make it work for you. |

Hi Chris, (You too ScottandMichelle),
My friend and I were in a similar position ~35 Ozzy & Sabbath shows on tape and Lp. He ended up using Pyro by the Cakewalk people.
Essentially, you run an adapter from the l and r rca jacks to a single 1/8" stereo jack. Or I use the headphone out jack and use a 1/4" and 1/8" ended cable (1/4 headphone jack 1/8 soundcard)$4 in parts and 5' cable. Pyro comes with a wave editor too. Version 2 just came out which supposedly cleans up audio better.
Windows sound recorder does a good job (actually the same api job :) ), after you pop its time limit. Build the cable & Try the free one first :)
Let us know how it turns out.
Take Care!!!

| I recommend Pro Tools Free for anything like this. Search for it at Download.com |

Just like to add that I have a free standing CD Burner that can tie in with your stereo system, by going out of your Headphone jack (1/4 inch) to the burner
inputs (rca) You can buy the adapter cord at Radio Shack for about $5. Now here's where it gets interesting. I can also go from my VCR which has all of my Video Boots to CD Burner, and The VCR is tied in with the DVD player, and TV. I can burn from almost any source: TV, VCR, DVD Player, Cassette, CD, and radio. It even has 2 mic line ins for live recording straight to burn, This thing rules!! |

| If possible it is desireable to have a cassette deck with a Azimuth Adjuster (I'm certain I spelt that wrong). That way you can line up the heads on the casette deck to match the head alignment from the recorder and hopwfully get a much better transfer. I would also avoid going to the input jack on a pc or the microphone jack on the pc as those aren't really made for this kindda thing. I'm sitting on a ton of casettes too but because I don't have the proper tools for the job I haven't done anything with them. I actually know a guy that does have everything and he transfers cassette to CDR for me from time to time, perserving the best possible quality. That's what it is all about. |
