Everyone give me your opinions here...what would you all say are the best-sounding VH boots out there? You can either go by a "top 10 list" or go "tour by tour". Thanks. :)

Here's something I posted on the Roth Army boards a while back:
******************************************
Okay, here's a short list of boots to get:

"That's All Folks" - The 25-song WB demos in the best sound available plus other interesting rarities. This is an absolute must-have.

"Demo Daze" - an excellent collection of early demo takes and live tracks.

"Goldenwest Ballroom" and "Club Days (Goldenwest Ballroom Pt. II)" - two separate discs that feature a very good sounding pre Warner Bros show with lots of never released tunes and covers.

"Eyes of the Night" - another good sounding club era bootleg with excellent cover tunes and some unreleased songs.

"Civic Pride" - (or any one of about a dozen bootlegs of this show) about the best sounding Dave era bootleg, plus it's a great pre 1st album show in Pasadena.

"Live in Tokyo 1978" - Great 1st tour recording along with "Shinjuku 78 the Other Show" and "Fire in Osaka".

"Live and Loud" - Great show and recording from 2nd tour.

"Remembering Largo" - incomplete mixing disc recording but still outstanding 1980 show.

"London Invasion" - another 1980 show and an excellent audience recording.

"Full Moon, Fair Warning" - this is the complete show that was edited to fit on one disc for the "Listen up, Eddie" bootleg. Best performed show available from the 1981 tour. Decent audience recording. "Home Ground" is also a good show and about the same quality but FM,FW edges it out for performance.

"Live at the Cow Palace" or "Four on the Floor"(same recording) - Best representation of the Diver Down tour. Good audience recording. Curiously, the 1982-83 tours are better represented on video then audio. Go figure.

"California Calling (Listen To This Jimmy)" - US Festival. Yeah, I know; I said this wasn't the best VH performance ever. But since everyone is recommending it, you might as well try to get it.:-) This is the best version to get of the US Fest concert. Big points for nice packaging also.

"Diamond Dave Goes Home Again" - very good complete audience recording of a very well performed 1984 show.

"Assaults Quebec" - culled from several sources, mostly Quebec 4/21/1984 and Dave's last show with VH in Germany 9/2/1984, an excellent sounding package representing the 1984 tour.

"Madison 1984" - A good sounding recording from their 7/3/84 show in Madison, WI. One of my personal faves.

.....And now for some Sammy and Gary shows (Dave-only fans can skip this):

"5150 Album Leftovers" - has almost-finished versions of tracks from the album "5150". Not much different than the official release, but it does contain the unreleased "I Want Some Action". Also included are some live cuts and a soundcheck both from 1986.

"New Halen - Live in New Haven USA" or one of the many New Haven, CT boots. This is the same recording that "Live Without a Net" was taken from and was featured on the Westwood One Rock Concert Series syndicated radio show. Includes nice versions of "Wild Thing" and "Good Enough".

"I Can't Tell You" - one of the boots from the Feb.'89 Tokyo shows. A very good OU812 show.

"Daydream in Dallas" - this is from the Dallas, TX "free show" in 1991. Despite some minor "crackling" on the first several tunes, an excellent soundboard show.

"One Way to Rock" - another good soundboard recording from the F.U.C.K. tour.

"Secret Gig at Whisky-A-Go-Go" - a nice "intimate"-sounding disc from VH's famous "Homecoming" gig at the Whiskey on 3/3/93 (it really wasn't "secret", though ;-))

"Rocking My Hometown" - good representation of the guys' 1993 L:RHRN tour.

"Factory Of Music" - outstanding soundboard recording. It was recorded at an actual "secret gig" at the Factory Club in Milan, Italy. If you love Sammy-era VH, this is not to be missed.

"Impulsive Balance" or one of the 3/11/95 Pensacola, FL discs.

"Montage Mountain 1995" - a good audience recording from 1995. There are many other great sounding boots from 1995.

"Live from the 10 Spot" - just one of the numerous discs from the infamous 1998 tour with Gary. Love him or hate him, VH does have some energetic performances on this and on boots like "Corestates Spectrum", "Unchained Monsters", "Wolfgang Attack", and others.

I have to put up the show in Negmegen, Goeffert Park in 1995! That is still one of my all time favorite shows...period! Check that one out if you can...it smokes! :D
I also have the Amsterdam show from '78 and surprisingly enough, it too is a very good show! They must have had a good tape rolling that night...good, clean sound IMO.
VH in Paris 1993. Sure Sammy loses his voice, but the energy was there and it's one of those "rarities", kinda like "Take 1 Take 2" when you hear the people you look up to are only human like you! Hey...everyone can get a sore throat, right? :D
Biloxi, MS and Baton Rouge, LA...12/6/91 and 12/7/91. Both are pretty good clean audience recordings. I enjoy them quite a bit.

I recently acquired "Got the Miracle Fingers" from Tokyo. I sent a copy to a friend who is as big a VH nut as I am. His repsonse was "Hell, that soiunds better than the album they were touring to support." He was talking about OU812. it is a very impressive recording. I highly recommend it.

;) I just posted a link to this thread. I'd like to add the Greensboro show from '84. Maybe somebody can back me, but I bet the same person recorded it as did the Charlotte show.

Oh yea, a little boot named Zero needs to be added!!
