Great show tonight!!! Same set as last night with Seventh Seal replacing Learning To See and Finish What Ya Started replacing You Really Got Me for the first encore.
Wolfie again came out during Eddie's solo. Ed seemed to be having more fun tonight during his solo too.
All in all a great VH Weekend!!!! |

I went to the Saturday show and had nose bleed seats. On Sunday I had the 5 star package. I can begin to explain how incredible that experience was. During the soundcheck I was dead center. Ed came out and was quite chatty. Al soon joined him. As Ed is noodling around I yell out "WOMEN IN LOVE" and he looks at me kind of perplexed and then starts to play the intro. He stops and says "Oh man its been like 20 years since I played that". He then went back into playing it up until Al is to start his drum part. Al screwed it up, but they went for it and a few of us who actually know the lyrics began to sing it. It was really something very cool.
When Mike arrived the 100 of us 5 star folks all sang happy birthday to him. They then played "Up for breakfast" no singing.
Sam joined wearing a knit hat and indicated he was having a bad hair day to which Eddie quiped "It looks like you're having a bad hat day". They gathered themselves and started trying to find themselves in playing "Finish What Ya Started", it is great to see them working out the kinks. After the song Eddie did some more noodling on the foot of the stage playing "316" and then Wolfy came out to join him. Here is where I pulled a dumb move. I am right in front of Eddie and in a moment of weakness I touched the top of the guitar. I then touched the very top of the neck of the guitar string. I touched it and pulled my hand back. I didn't jerk the guitar or try to grab his hand. Sorry how often do you get an opportunity to touch EVH's guitar. Anyway, one of the guys from VH's security came for me. I got a stern lecture about how I was not allowed to touch the instruments and told if I did it again I would be thrown out. I returned to warm up, but they were done. All of the guys except for Ed signed stuff for us. Ed passed out a handful of guitar picks, which many of us later received...Thanks dude!
The 5 star seats were all in the first 2 rows. I would strongly encourage you to wear ear plugs. Granted it ain't the macho thing to do, but even with them my ears are still hurting this morning.
I have been to 3 VH shows in the past 5 days. I have 2 gripes. 1) Why on earth do they need to subject us to some hack opening band? VH has a huge catalog, do a 3 hour show include a 15 minute intermission. 2) Change up the set list! Maybe this will change as the band gets back on track.
The shows have all been solid shows and it was worth the wait. For those of you with 5 star packages don't touch Eddie's guitar and brace yourself for a night you will never forget. |
